Hi Everyone

I was brought up a christian by my mom. I think I have taken it for granted from time to time not taking the words of the bible to heart. Telling myself it's okay I believe in god and I believe in Jesus so I'm saved it's okay, I don't have to read the bible, I don't have to pray each day, I don't have to say thanks to god he knows I'm happy and when things don't go my way, my heart hardens and I ask myself why should I thank god?

I don't drink, I don't smoke, I don't do drugs, I never have and I never will, but then I have so many other flaws. In time you will get to know them as I will post threads on this forum asking how to improve myself in certain matters. That is also why I joined this forum.

Bottom line I joined to become a better christian and get to know other christians as I don't go to church either.

The denomination I belong to also does not allow drinking, smoking, drugs etc as you mention in your post.

In Galatians 2:20 Paul says
20 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.

In 1 Corinthians 9 Paul also says
23 I do all things for the sake of the gospel, so that I may become a fellow partaker of it.
24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win. 25 Everyone who competes in the games exercises self-control in all things. So they do it to obtain a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. 26 Therefore I run in such a way as not to run aimlessly; I box in such a way, as to avoid hitting air; 27 but I strictly discipline my body and make it my slave, lest after I have preached the gospel to others, I myself will not be disqualified.

The New Birth, the new creation work of the Holy Spirit - a living relationship with Christ each day. All are very essential in the Christian walk. Welcome brother.

Well I was not raised in such a way it wasn't allowed. The drugs ofcourse, it was a big no on that one.

My mom smoked since she was 13 years old and to this day still smokes 20-40 cigarettes a day. I have prayed for her, but she still smokes. She did get a nasty lung infection and after 10 days dropped all the cigarettes, but then my mom got some problems into her life and started smoking again. It's the only thing that calms her when she is stressed, more than the bible I'm sad to say. I was very embarrassed by this when I lived at home, when I was out and people flat out said to me you smoke, and I was like no! but my clothed reeked of nicotine.

Alcohol. We have three types of family members. The ones that don't drink like, my late grandmother, my mom and me, then, we have the ones that, could drink on occasion and the ones that were not happy until the bottle was empty. As a kid my moms drunken uncles surely made a lasting impression, enough for me to not touch alcohol, not even my peers as a teenager could change my mind. I have been called boring many times, even in my adult life because I don't drink.

A work in progress, that is a good description, it is sometimes like one step forward and one step back, but I always manage to get back on the horse so to speak.
