Hi everyone and welcome,
My name is John. Over the past few years I have come to follow Jesus. My story isn't particularly special, but I'd like to share it here.
I grew up going to Sunday school every week and being read Bible stories each night, but I never felt like I fit in at church. I think that's what made it hard for me to get the message. I was always very skeptical and by the time I reached high school I had completely denied God and religion, at least inwardly.
Fast forward to post-college and I started exploring the world around me. One of the things I had been practicing for awhile was meditation. I began to dive into some of the spiritual teachings taught by some of the meditation teachers I had discovered. I soon realized that a lot of the things that were being taught were things I had heard or read before in the Bible. For example, "God is Love" (1 John 4:8). "If you like a grain of mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move" (Matt. 17:20). And another, "Do not be afraid." (Matt. 14:27)
Long story short this eventually led me to wanting to learn about Jesus again. In doing so I've felt more love, peace, energy and comfort then ever and I am greatly enjoying the gift of life like never before.
For me following Jesus is a very spiritual journey. It also a very real personal relationship. If I had only discovered the words of the Bible, I am not sure I would care as much as I do. But being able to feel the Spirit and presence of Christ and His love is much more real than I previously imagined. And that is why I feel so strong about Him.
I joined this community because, for a few months now, I have been meditating on the name of Jesus. In these meditations, and sometimes just during the day, words and images come to mind. I often form poems and prayers from these. I would like to share them and will be posting regularly in the poetry and prose section. If you are bored and would like to explore my Christian poetry at your own leisure, you can find them at my website which is here: https://reflectionsbythewater.com/spiritual-geysers/
I hope I am not breaking a rule by linking to my website. I do not mean to self promote, only to promote the Father, Spirit and Son. But if I am breaking a rule by doing so please let me know.
Anyways, thank you folks for the warm welcome. I look forward to the fellowship that I hope to find here.
