• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey, i was just wondering if you guys could help me with something....

Well to start off i'll give ya a bit of background info :)

I've been a christian for most of my life (im 18 now)
I'm a worship leader at my church, and i also help out with other stuff like helping with youth n stuffs.
Well my main problem, as such, is that it appears i have developed an eating disorder. some days i think so, others i dont lol

My youth leader offered to go to the doctors with me, but i was incred reluctant becuase i dont think the doctor would think anything is wrong with me, cos eventho ive lost a lot of weight, im not quite in the range for a doctor to diagnose me with anything, despite the fact that i eat very little as it is.

The problem is, ive been strugglin while singing n stuff to concentrate and not fall over basically lol

was just wondering what else i could do other than go to the doctors? My pastor knows about my eating i think.... (everything that i tell my youth pastor goes back to my pastor so im thinking he does know lol) though i havent sat down and tlked to him about it. I've talked to my youth pastor but she doesnt really know what to say....

i guess i could just eat more. but the prospect is just too scary.

advice would be much appreciated!

hmm this is a tough one. umm i think you should pray about it more (im sure you are) but no matter how small it seams to you if your finding hard to even stand up then you should get it sorted. I would say see the docter they no what to offer you and even if its not sarious just to be resured of that will help.

Hi Stillfalling and welcome.

You mentioned that you lost a lot of weight, but you didn’t say whether or not it’s intentional. Are you eating little to lose weight, or are you not feeling well so you aren’t eating enough? I couldn’t pick up enough by what you shared to determine how you’re feeling about this weight loss. Certainly if it’s affecting you physically (as in the light headedness) you’re not getting enough nutrition. Your body’s not going to be able to function properly without some food and if you’re unable to concentrate or near fainting, then you’re definitely not getting what you need.
Either way, my advice to you is get a doctor to look at you so he/she can at least rule out anything serious. And if you have someone willing to go along with you; all the better!

sorry i didnt really explain the whole thing properly!

Ive been wanting to lose weight for a long time (about 2 years)

I didnt realy do anything about it till last jan...i lost a lot of weight then, but put some of it back on....then when i moved out to uni in sept i started to cut back on food again...and yeah im happy that ive lost weight. but im still not happy. technically my bmi is verging on nearly underweight, but it used to be slightly overweight.
I still feel like im slightly overweight as i have a really distorted body image.

theres nothing seriously wrong. i just cant seem to bring myself to eat anymore.
i feel so guilty for eating. i also know its silly, and i have tried to change, but i cant.

i may go to the docs in the morning, but i dunno

we'll see
i know i need to sort this before people start questioning whats going on. in 5weeks i go to christian conference with some girls from my church for a week. they wont be impressed if i dont eat all week really. infact quite the opposite and i dont wanna be forced into eating cos i know that would make me feel pretty naff!

thanks for your replies :)

Hi and welcome to the forums!

I agree with what MyaShane has said...a doctor would still be a great place to start. Tell them as much as you can about what's going on and see where it goes from there. I think it's great that your Youth Pastor wants to go along with you too .

Its great that you are open to your youth pastor atm. Take advantage of that. if she wants to come to the doctor with thats great. you have someone there to support you and understands you right fromthe get go.. whether you have an ed or not. Speaking from experience, loneliness is a major problem with initative and willpower for me.. so take advantage of the fact that someone wants to be there for you now. if you dont want to go to the doctor but want to see someone a dietatian (sp) or nutrionist(sp) can help you too.
