• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

Hey there x

My name is Nicky x I am a Christian although it all feels very long and complicated to testimony about at the minute.

I am s self-harmer and I have had something on my mind for a while. Making myself sick after food. I am currently
Doing slimming world as am overweight. Lately, I have started feeling guilty about eating and so haven't eaten. Then I
Get very hungry and have a meal but then feel guilty. I've not made myself sick as of yet, but I can see myself startingi

I've never had any eating disorders so it feels strange that something could be starting now at twenty seven.

So I just wanted to say hey x I may not be posting but I will be around x x

Hi, Nicky,

I'm brand new too. This is my first post. Replying because your post struck me.

I'm twenty six. I used to self harm but haven't for several years. Food has been a tricky space for me for years (I've avoided knowing/tracking my weight, and counting calories is a disaster). But, I've remained the same weight most of the time so it hasn't been an issue.

Recently I lost a lot of weight due to a diet change. Took me a while to notice it. The past couple of months I seem to be more and more focused on how much I eat, feeling awful if I do eat, trying to see how long I can not eat, etc.

It's baffling to me too that i could be struggling with this so late in life. A friend who is in recovery from anorexia pointed out the ways in which my thinking is concerning to her. And i suppose it's not *just* starting; I had tendencies for years and it's recent life stress plus discovering the feeling of losing weight that has tipped me over the edge.

I guess - i hear you.

Dear xnickyx,
I"m glad you have reached out for help! We're glad to have you!

I am a recovering bulimic, have been since freshman year of high school (I'm twenty eight). If I could say, PLEASE please do not start making yourself sick. It is deadly, and not worth it. (Starvation either). As a result, my teeth are worn down, I'm always thirsty, and so many health, stomach issues. My throat burned like crazy. I was so sick. I was doing it up to two times a day. In my opinion, drinking battery acid is comparable to when you keep making yourself sick. Burns so badly in thoat and stomach.

It starts as one or two times, and believe me, it becomes an addiction quickly. I've been in recovery groups for women with years of eating disorders. They are dangerously thin and think they are overweight. They count calories. They exercise every day. Every pound they gain is torture for them. Their ed has progressed, but you may find yourself in the same direction.

It is a lifelong struggle once you've given in to an ED, in my experiences. May not be true of everyone though. Not sure.

Our eating is one of the few things we can control in our lives (outside of God), so that's why it is so easy to do so when our lives are out of control.

Making yourself sick actually slows your metabolism, and you end up gaining even more weight. Same with anorexia, I believe.

As a suggestion, stamp out every thought AS SOON AS the thought enters your mind. Seconds after. Don't dwell on it. Satan is attacking you. The more you dwell on the thought of not eating, the worse it will get. Surround your thoughts with God's word, and get an emergency Bible verse. Control your thoughts about your weight. You can do it through God. Keep up with the accountability of calling. Good job! End of advice giving. ;)

As a sister, an ED is such a tough habit to break. It is a lifelong struggle.

You're better than the lies satan gives you. God loves you beyond words. You are valuable!

I know someone like this. Please don't feel guilty for eating, dont starve yourself, dont throw up or do anything like that. If you want to lose weight, there are healthier ways to do so. Excercise, diet, etc.

I don't know much about this because I havent ever experienced it myself, so I don't know if it is hard to stop doing things like this. Try if you can though
