Does anyone keep these critters? They are fun! Do you have any tips on prolonging their lives???

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Mine eat, walk around, change shells. It's like watching fish. Slower, and they make neat noises. I suppose mine probably are more active because I keep the house extra warm, so they come out and party~

They are neat, I used to have some.
As for extending their life..try mixing up the diet..throw in fresh fruit every once in a while (apple slices..orange, whatever)...also I know you can give them pieces of raw meat and even I think fat that you cut off meat. Those are just treats and should never replace a regular diet..but mixing them in can only be beneficial if mixed appropriately (as in, not in excess).
Also..I have no idea if this helps extend their lives, but definitely let them out of their cage to crawl around a large room for a little bit every once in a while..its great exercise.

I love all god's creatures. 
I have a hermit crab, his name is Peek-a-boo. Last nite I watched him as he tried to change shells, it was great, we also let him out of the cage to walk around the house and he loved it, he even now responds to my voice, and my daughters.
I read one time they like peanut butter, so I gave him some and he loved it, I will have to try the meats, and meat fats, and also fruit.
They are scavangers so I guess they will eat most things.
