  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Here's the pattern....

What is getting so OLD is all these unsound attempts for you to claim the "high ground" by calling anyone who disagrees with you and with your positions an "anti-Catholic/basher," while referring to yourself simply as a "defender". It truly is a joke!

You then try and make your opponent look like the attacker, while you are the defender, even though, in point, you are attacking our position (even while your giving no defense or definition of your own P.O.V.)

Give it a rest! Seriously!
Guess I shoulda tried that awhile ago.

LLOJ, what exactly are the chopsticks you keep referring to? You can PM if you want so we don't derail this ever so nice thread about non-Catholics.
If ya look in my profile you will see what I mean ^_^ Don't know if they are available or not but it just gives me a chance to bring a little humour more than anything. Thanks for asking.

I looked, but only in one place (misc) and didn't see them. However, if I find them, they are totally YOURS.

I would recommend that you take Catholic specific questions and ask them in OBOB, Orthodox specific questions and ask them in TAW, and for the numerous Protestant divisions, to their specific denominational forum. YOu will get better answers than you will here.

Exactly. It is impossible to carry on a civil conversation on GT.

Any thread started by a Catholic questioning or pointing out errors in Protestantism is derailed and closed. It's quite easy, really. All you have to do is start fights that proceed into flaming, personal attacks, mocking, baiting, way off topic posting, etc.

Consequently, there are now numerous anti-Catholic threads that dominate this fora. And you can't even point that out without the thread getting closed. I must congratulate some of our Protestant brethren for their crafty tactics. We Catholics should take a page out of your playbook! I hope we don't, however.

Now, the big question is, how long will this thread stay open?

Excellent points. Well stated. Kudos.

You should support your assertions with something relevant and probative, otherwise it is merely slanderous conjecture.

You missed this whole series of exchanges I would guess.
Jackthecatholic and I were veiwing cyprians view of church government, primacy and authority...I pointed out in numerous posts cyprians view and alls TJ was doing was confirming that even RC take that same view as I was sharing with JackTC, track back on this exchange it'd be a good learning experience for you.

Looks like I missed all the fun.

Any chance of you and I continuing?

I have to say that your argument is strong and can be debated. It is rare that something as educational as this is brought in to debate.

What I find interesting about Cyprian and his Unity of the Church letter is that there is contention from scholars about it. Both sides have good arguments.

I may be lashed for this later or maybe even regret saying it but I think that with the contention on his writing and two schools of thought that it is not definite as to his stance on Primacy, at least from my still ignorant POV.

Anyhow... I will wait to see what happens.

Oh, I've seen plenty. The problem is when people start thinking that someone is being uncivil when they disagree, or when someone is pointing out perceived errors. That doesn't have to be uncivil. The subject isn't uncivil, the people discussing it are.

Props to the people who debate here day after day. I realize it can get heated in these threads, but I've not seen that happen yet.

Yes maybe we ought to move it into our quiet lil corner, I was accused of being off OP topic (as if there  is one)
I am probably gone for the eve...I think his stance is pretty clear. So yeah lets move it over to patristics. And continue.

Amen sister!
Skandalon, that's the real culprit.

And that has more to do with an individual's
capacity to keep things impersonal, imo.
