Could it be that the problem the OP is having with the Old Testament is that it's coming from the assumption that it's a literal, word-for-word understanding of the nature of God?
But wouldn't that only be possible if God were capable of being pigeonholed and defined in human language?
Is God capable of being so easily caged? I kind of doubt that He is.
But there are those who like their gods small and easily controlled; who am I to deny them their security?

Better questions: Do I want to live forever? Where was I before I was here? Would I wish to return?
The Scriptures are all about God communicating His revelation to mankind within our limitations.
I follow the word in my heart, as God promised. I don't need to prove my doubts, because the Lord has worked in my own life. That's my proof. The word. We all come to this conclusion eventually.

I have already died. How can you be ahead of me? You see only material strongholds, but i see spiritual. The bible teaches us that the material is only temporary, but the spiritual is eternal. What you see is actually an illusion. This may be a more like science fiction to you than science, but i assure you that the greatest frontier is in front of your face. XD sir, I am just very aware of my strengths and weaknesses. I found it funny, because I know pride isn't the issue. I am impatient. I am quick to anger. I am pretty darn lazy. If I put the 7 sins in order from most to least present in my person, they would go Wrath, Sloth, Gluttony, Envy, Greed, Lust, and Pride. My concern for what others think of me is dangerously low, and I have chronic self-loathing. If I had more pride, I would probably be a happier person. Also, perhaps you need to drop the biblical bias that favors you. The world isn't obviously created by any particular deity; if that was the case, Judaism and perhaps Christianity would have been among Native North and South Americans prior to Europeans going there.
