  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

They have all sorts of hemp necklace kits at the general craft store. I'm pretty sure that if you get one and some extra materials, you should be able to make some on your own after you get the basic idea. :) I haven't looked online, but since you can find just about anything on here, it would be worth a shot at that too.

I need to know how to make hemp necklaces for some friends could someone help me?
I agree, you should be able to find some kits pretty easily at Michael's or A C Moore. Even Wal-Mart has them I think.

If you can't find kits, just look for a book on macrame, buy some hemp and some nice beads (I prefer wooden, glass or ceramic beads, not metal or plastic), and start knotting! I just made my 11 year old daughter a hemp bracelet recently, it took about a minute to make and she thinks it looks pretty cool.

GodFreak43, hemp is a natural material, used for ropes and other things for centuries. I can understand your fathers concern, but hemp necklaces do not in themselves refer to drugs. Of course though, you should listen to him, but if you are interested in hemp as a craftmaterial, you could ask him to see if he could find some books on the use of hemp as such, that he would find suitable for you.

In Eastern Europe, where my parents grew up, great fields of hemp were grown to be harvested and turned into rope. Nobody ever thought of smoking the leaves of the hemp plant.

When they later moved to this country and discovered that an entire sub-culture revolved around the smoking of the hemp plant, they just thought it was the strangest thing.

If you have a Hobby Lobby or a JoAnn's Fabrics near you look for Suzanne McNeill's Design Original series of craft instruction books. Other places probably carry them, but I know that those two do for sure. There are quite a few of her books that are devoted to hemp jewelry. Some contain designs simple enough for a child, friendship bracelets and such and others have some really neat more complicated designs. They have an online presence, d-originals.com. The how to pictures make it worth the price.

Right. What his dad does realize is that industrial hemp, the kind of hemp used for clothing, ropes, etc, lacks the chemical, THC, which is the intoxicating chemical in marijuana.

Hemp and marijuana are not the same thing. Hemp has nothing to do with drugs. You can't smoke it. You can't get high from it.

But hemp and marijuana aren't the same thing. There are several different strands of hemp and those used commonly in industrial hemp today, you can't smoke.

Now, that having been said, in WWII, soldiers would often take a knife and shave off small pieces of old ropes and mix it with tobacco. Today, you might still hear old timers talking about "smoking a rope". This is what they're referring to.

But the stuff they use today isn't like that.

This has slightly confused me, I'll tell you why, a few days, A few friends and I went out for the day to a lovely town called York, one of my friends, well to be honest after recent events with her and now ex-boyfriend, I dont really count her as a friend, but this is neither the time or the place for that, was looking at a 'hippy' stall on a market we saw there, well if you can 6 stalls a market anyway I'm digressing again, she came back to the rest of us sucking a lollypop(chuba kinda thing) and remarked' this is horrible, anyone wanna try it?' me being stupid, decided to try it and did, i too found it horrible and then deiced to ask what it was. 'hemp flavour' she replied 'typical' thought i and decided to ask first next time i'm offered a sweet from her, anyway my question is this: could it actually be hemp flavour? or was it some just stupid made up taste like 'apple'?

You're welcome :)

Right now, I'm experimenting with stretch magic. I've started making some ladder bracelets and some net bracelets. Quite easy and they turn out really nicely! I used some glass round beads and some blue acrylic facets on one for myself and I love it! (I hardly ever make stuff for myself lol)

But yeah, I have a lot of friends and family wanting me to make them hemp stuff - so I must get back on to that :)
