  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I want to believe in God and have prayed, but I get no answers. I feel he does not care about me as many bad things have happened to me in life. I have had a very tough life. I've been on the streets, been abused, and much more. It seems nothing good happens to me. I want to know why God does not let anything good happen to me? Why doesn't he care? I am not good at anything and it seems like everyone else has it easy in life. I'm in school and this quarter I am not doing so well. It seems no matter how much I pray nothing happens. I know I will not get anything in life so what is the purpose of my life? I feel like it is some sick joke on me. Why does all the bad have to happen to me? Please help as I want to know God and understand all the bad in my life.

often those with the purest souls are those who are hit hardest by evil initially

you need to be honest with yourself though

while I'm sure many things happened to you that were out of your control and horrendous, did it not also lead to sinful behavior on your part? were you not at least partially responsible for many things that went wrong?

try looking in yourself and be as honest as possible...if you continue to seek god he will respond in ways you can't even imagine now

I don't know his plan for you but if you trust him he'll make it known to you in due time

these bad things that happen to us also make us stronger...so maybe god has important work for you in the future where he will need to make good use of that strength

dive into his word and try to let him speak to you through his words

I highly recommend the New American Standard Bible if you can get a copy(or read it online at www.biblegateway.com)

&Abel,

In response to asking if I was a part of what has gone wrong, I have done many sinful acts that have resulted in my life spiraling out of control. There have also been many things that have happened out of my control. I do hope God has a plan for me that at one time he will reveal it. I just wish he would let me know now. I will try reading the Bible. Thanks for your response and I liked the song.

I want to believe in God and have prayed, but I get no answers.
There really is only one kind of prayer God will hear from those who don't know Him and that is a prayer to know Him and/or to be one of His children. Until this prayer is made, and made genuinely, all other petitions we put before God are blocked by our sinful, unforgiven state. You see, being in a condition where Christ is not the Lord and Saviour of your life means that those requests you make of God in prayer will inevitably be for the wrong things. And God won't answer prayers that are for things He doesn't desire for you.

Matthew 6:31-33 (NKJV)
31 Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'
32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.
33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

James 4:3 (NKJV)
3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

I feel he does not care about me as many bad things have happened to me in life. I have had a very tough life. I've been on the streets, been abused, and much more. It seems nothing good happens to me. I want to know why God does not let anything good happen to me? Why doesn't he care?
God does care about you. He cares very, very much. He cares so much, in fact, that He died on a cross for you.

1 John 4:9-10 (NKJV)
9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the payment for our sins.

How amazing a thing it is that God, who is greater than all the cosmos, who made stars that are so massive that our world is like a speck of dust in comparison, who controls forces so great that they can consume whole galaxies, cares about you. When you truly understand this, all your troubles will be put in their proper perspective.

Matthew 10:29-31 (NKJV)
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father's will.
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Jeremiah 29:11-13 (NKJV)
11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.
12 Then you will call upon Me and go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you.
13 And you will seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.

Bad stuff happens to us all. God doesn't keep such experiences from us. Instead, He carries us through them. Sometimes, our pain is the consequence of choices we make; sometimes we suffer because of the sin of others. It is sin, though, and not God, that has caused the sorrow and trouble of life. When God made the world it was very good. When sin entered creation, however, it corrupted the good things that God had made. As a result, to this day, you and I bear the destructive consequences of sin.

I am not good at anything and it seems like everyone else has it easy in life. I'm in school and this quarter I am not doing so well. It seems no matter how much I pray nothing happens. I know I will not get anything in life so what is the purpose of my life?
Your purpose in life is the same as mine: To glorify God and enjoy Him forever. Since this is the basic purpose for our existence, nothing can be more fulfilling than to pursue it. Is this what you want? Or are you looking to other things to make you feel fulfilled? Certainly, many other things can make us feel very good in the short term, but however good they may make us feel, they don't go as deep or as far as the joy we may have in fellowship with God.

I feel like it is some sick joke on me. Why does all the bad have to happen to me? Please help as I want to know God and understand all the bad in my life.
Are you able to eat every day?
Do you have access to clean water? How about a toilet?
If you get sick, can you get medical help?
Have you ever done hard labour for twelve or sixteen hours a day for just a few pennies?
You have access to a computer and you're going to school. Are you aware that there are many millions of people who have never used a computer and who desperately wish they could go to school?

My point is that "all the bad" hasn't happened to you. In comparison to many others, your life is a dream. Be thankful; it'll go a long ways towards making you happier.

Peace to you.

Why do bad things happen? Because its a fallen world. These things happen to all of us. Ninety percent is how we react to it and 10% is what happens to us. My trials are non stop and I'm near 50 years old. These trials purify us spiritually - its like gold being purified by fire. Also, they keep you humble like Christ. God hears your prayers. He answers according to His will for your life. He knows us better than we know ourselves. For one - its not an accident you came to this website. There is a specific reason God made you.

There was a man in the bible called Cornelious he was a man who did not know God, but gave generously to the poor and helped Gods people, essentually a good man. It was said of him that these good things that he had done came up before God as an offering. Meaning it made God take note. It does not say he (God) instantly made a fuss over him, but eventually God took note and sought to bless him, by making him the first gentile (non Jew) to recieve the Holy Spirit. Your prayers are an offering to God and offering that he does not take offence to. He will surely seek you out for a blessing, even the same blessing of recieving from God: the free gift of forgiveness, and his blessing of the Holy Spirit.

Don't not feel condemned in any way God is a case manager, he manages our cases individualy, yours is not a file lost some where. You may never feel any real change in your circumstances, but with God you will make it to heaven, rejoyce in that and try your hardest to have that good life, may God be with you and aid you in your efforts.

Amazing how people can make money after so many years wishing for the right job only to find out that their hidden talent in writing a blog or speaking clearly with no health problems would make their wishes come true. Becoming a freelance writer, a radio announcer or TV newsreader is not a job for lucky ones who had a nice life. Accepting Jesus Christ is becoming fearless in everything you do safely. Even very skilled professionals especially in construction must be safety-conscious. Making mistakes and avoiding them is an ongoing process of mindpower techniques you can learn online if you google mindpower.

Can I recommend to you some Christian fellowship? I mean attending a church. I don't know what is available in your area but I would really recommend that and also finding a prayer group. That support is absolutely priceless not only spiritually but also morally and socially.
Also, have you made a full confession of your own sins and repented before God? Get that in the bag and make a clean start with Him. Who must you forgive? Unforgiveness blocks our healing. It sounds like you have many people to forgive. It's hard but ask Him for the grace to do it. He will be much more effective in your life once you give yourself a scrub!

Remember that He loves you beyond your imaginings and wants you back! He has great things in store for you. I'll say a prayer for you!

You have described to us a life with this and that and those ordinary disqualifications, and this might for some people prove a discouragement if they were applying for a high paying job perhaps, but in the case of christianity...the are assets!!! Strange, (but true,) the more empty of external success and happiness a person is, the more likely they have always proven to become some of the most shining saints for Christ.

The truth is, God never really needed a big person to do a big job. In fact biblically speaking, He even seems to prefer a diminutive, humbled, lowly, and even socially disqualified person like the Samaritan woman in John ch. 4, in whom to pour out His mighty Holy Spirit and then send out to work His miracles for Him.

"That no flesh should glory in His sight"

Do not sell yourself short because of what you have been yesterday. Whether you have been an utter failure or the world's greatest success in the past, (yet outside of Christ,) when you come to Him you roll it all into His tomb and leave it there forever. He is our asset, and His Spirit indwelling us is our qualification for success and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It is a very small pot which may yet hold the world's biggest and most valuable diamond, and this God seems to prefer small, cracked and chipped pots for His mighty saving grace, so as to place more attraction to what is held, than to what holds it. The lesser of a person whom Christ saves, the more room is thereby made for Him in which to display His wonderful works, and it has always been so.
