HELP with stage prop ideas!

I know this forum is pretty dead, and I may not get any replies, but I figured it can't hurt to try.

I'm playing Mrs. Paroo in "The Music Man", opening next weekend. I need ideas for something to do with my hands during the porch/rocking chair scenes. It needs to be something small and portable, because I get up and down quite a bit, and I need to set it down when I stand and move around. I don't know how to sew, so anything in the sewing genre is out lol.

I've thought about having a small basket of laundry, but then, where will I put the folded items? On my lap? Back in the basket, hoping the audience won't notice?

Any other ideas, please shout them out!

I can't knit or crochet at all, but if you can (or know someone who can), you could have a small project started that you could pretend to work on. I'm thinking of something the size of a pot holder, perhaps.
