  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Call to Action: I would like to ask for your support on behalf of a Displaced people group here on Christian Forums. These are believers in Christ that have no Home I am asking that the forum support the establishment of a “Sabbath keepers” forum. There are over 1500 Sabbath keeping groups in the united states alone. Yet they have no place to call home on Christian Forums. Groups like the Jehovah’s Wittiness and the Mormons are allowed to have a home, but there is no place for these believers in Christ. Despite the fact that they worship on the 7th day Sabbath as apposed to the first day of the week, They are truly Christians. The practice of Worshiping the 7th day of the week as been on Going since Apostolic times, the Roman West it was side by side on equal footing with the first day as late as the 4th Centaury and lasted until 7th centaury in India the St Thomason Christian kept the Sabbath until 19th centaury, In Africa it lasted well into the 16th centaury, It is even believed that Saint Patrick of Ireland was a 7thday Sabbath keeper. There is a Rich tradition of Sabbath keeping in Christianity. We have 2 groups of Sabbath Keepers that have official Sub-forums, The Seventh-day Adventist and the Messianic . As stated earlier there are 1500 different Sabbath keeping groups in the US alone among them are The Seventh-day Baptists, Seventh day Church of God, the Seventh Day Methodists, Seventh-day Pentecostals and the Seventh-day German Baptists. None of these groups have a Home and a general Sabbath keeping forum would do the trick, please click on the link below and click yes to indicate support for the Sabbath keepers sub forum.

Thank-you very much

This brings us back to the debate about what may be, in essence, groups of Messianic Believers (Gentiles) who fall between Christianity and Judaism but cannot fully meet with Messianic Jews (who are the centre ground at present) because they are not Jews! I admire their integrity in holding out BUT - we seriously need to address this growing problem: what is to be done about Messianic Gentiles?

We now have, quite clearly 4 groups:

Jews
Messianic Jews
Messianic Gentiles
Christians

the centre ground needs to be fused together somehow or we there will be not just the one wall that Sh'aul spoke about but 3 walls, between Christians and Jews.

We are in the process of having a subforum for the hebrew christians here on MJ... would that help?
Why? Really? That makes me sad. I do not think Gentiles new to the faith know what they're doing. (I'm one of them! ) Seriously. It's an interesting problem, yes, but how much can a bunch of Gentiles with no Jewish background learn from one another? If only tolerance could mesh the two groups.

This problem really isn't new if you think about it. Paul faced this very problem! What to do with the Gentiles?

Visionary - what do you mean by the words 'Hebrew Christians'? That title is for Messianic Jews only, surely? For folk who are a) Hebrew (Jews) and Christian (they believe in Y'shua) - we already have that group - this one!

I was making the distinction, as is Chris10Leigh, I think, that we need a thread where Messianic Believers (both Jews and Gentiles) can meet and debate. Clearly Messianic Judaism does not serve that purpose and to freeze out the Gentiles from their brothers and sisters here is not what its all about, is it?

I think that the titles will have more to do with the different directions each hold.

For the sake of peace on the board...

Hebrew christians- those (jew or gentile)that hold the "christian" traditions yet identify themselves with us.

Messianic Judaism- will be for those [both jew and gentile] who hold "judaism" in the Messiah.

Titles of identification are in the works, so are the identifiers [definitions] of the two groups.

The Messianic main forum will be for both parties.

Oh! That makes sense. I understand now and actually think that might help. I bet there will be some disagreement on this, but those who come to this way of life from a Christian background are not going to quit their Christian ways cold turkey. It's a process. It would be nice to have a place to do that.

Hmmm??? Maybe someone here can help me.

Let me explain a little.

First, I come from a very diverse "Christian" background.

Mother -- Methodist
Father -- Catholic (but now Episcopalian)
Aunt -- Lutheran
Grandmother -- Baptist
Self -- been involved with Baptists, Pentecostals, Seventh-Day Adventist, and a few others.

Really, I've been looking for the "True" Church. As I have studied the doctrines of many different denominations, it makes me sad that for those denominations that I have researched, they each have some "fundamental" doctrine that I cannot substantiate from Scripture.

Now, from my personal study of Scripture, I find that I can at least classify myself as a Sabbatarian. I do the best I can to keep Sabbath Holy. I also believe that we should keep the feasts of the LORD. And, that is one area that I have a problem with, I really can't find out any details explaining how to keep the feasts. Nor do I know when the feasts should be celebrated.

I live in Roanoke, VA, and there are two Messianic congregations here. One meets in a home and the other meets in a church, when the church isn't using the facilities. However, both say that since I am not, at least to my knowledge, of any Jewish decent, then I cannot participate in their services

From what information that I can gather from on-line sources, the beliefs that I have developed through personal study of Scripture tends more toward what I read with regards to Messianic Judaism, than toward any organized Christian Denomination. How can I learn more?

:( :sigh: looks like trying to divide the Body of Christ into more pieces to me.

Personally, I still don't fit into any of your little groups.
I am Jewish.
And I am a born again Christian.
I do not "hold the Christian traditions".
I do not keep the Sabbath or keep Kosher.
What to do, what to do? :swoon:

I believe you just discribed the hebrew christian perfectly. You are a born again Jew who does not participate in Judaism worship style.

You are not the only gentile that God has lead this direction. Keep going, it is God leading and He will provide. There are many messianic congregations which practice the Judaic style of worship and have lots of gentiles in their midst.

But I don't "hold Christian traditions". I don't celebrate Christmas or Easter or pray to Saints or to Mary or do that sort of stuff. What in your definition is holding to Christian traditions?

Hi CoM, would you mind sharing what you do for worship and your main beliefs? I take it you worship on Sunday, does the church you go to not celebrate Easter or christmas? I know of a few like that.

Do you not keep Kosher because you never did or because your church is against it?

I hope I am not prying, just curious and happy the forum is working again to talk~! :)
