  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I'm announcing the birth of my son! Born 3/1 (almost leap day!) 7lbs, 12 oz and 22 inches! He's my biggest yet and going to be tall like daddy!

So, now he's a week old and we still haven't decided on a name! The middle name is David (after his daddy), but we're trying to decide on the first. DH wants it to be masculine and I want uncommon. The names we've narrowed it down to are:

Brendan
Luke
Greyson
Zane

I'd love to hear your vote and/or any pros, cons, nicknames to any of the names. He needs a name soon! I'm already in trouble from my friends and family! :D

Thanks so much!

Luke and Zane are GREAT, love those two. Luke is timeless and Zane is spunky. Plus, Luke David and Zane David (the latter especially) go GREAT together. Brendan is "O.K.", though I think it's a boyish name (as opposed to a manly name), and your son WILL be a man longer than he will be a boy! Greyson is girly, I think. I've heard of girls named that. What about just Grey?

And CONGRATS! Let us know what you decide! I knew a woman who didn't name her child for MONTHS!!

Ugh! No, we still haven't settled on a name. I thought we would definitely have by now, but my husband is leaving it up to me with the knowledge that he definitely likes Luke. I like Brendan, but it doesn't flow as well with our last name which starts with a "D". On top of that, if we have a girl next time, I'd like to name her Brianne or Brenna and my DH thinks it would be too confusing to have two "Br" names. Sounds like we should have gone with Luke as per the reasoning above, but I'm just stuck on Brendan...the name with all the reasons not too. :\

Luke is a lovely name, reminds me of Luke from the Gilmore girls, and you couldn't get any more masculine than that!

But go with what your heart tells you!

Oh, you need to change your ticker! :)
I did try changing my ticker, but when I try, an error page comes up. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

BTW! Thanks for all your replies. My husband is very happy as well (as Luke is his favorite). We were just talking about it again. Hopefully we should have a decision by tonight as I hate not being able to call my precious little boy anything!

My vote is Brendan but I don't know your last name...
I wouldn't NOT name a child b/c you have a similar name picked out if you have a girl. You may never get a girl :D

I LOVE these threads! I'll have to venture into this forum more often.
First off, congrats on your new baby!
Brendan-I'm not a huge fan of this name (don't hate it either) but it seems a little too "trendy" to me. It also seems very 90's.
Luke- Luke is a really nice classic name. It's both strong and soft. It is pretty popular now (or getting there) but I don't think any kid would grow up hating the name Luke (though the "puke" thing might come up once in a while, I wouldn't let that stop you though)
Greyson-This name is getting quite popular too believe it or not. My husband has a friend with this name and he thought it was pretty unusual, but I've come across a few little kids called "Greyson". the name experts say it does run the risk of "trying to hard to sound upscale" and possibly may end up fairing the same as names like "Milton" and "Sheldon"
Zane-I like it, it sounds unique and familiar at the same time. I'm a sucker for Z's and S's.

I think Luke is my favorite, followed by Zane.

Congratulations on your baby boy!!

If you go to the control panel and edit signature on your left, you then click on the image in the top box and hit backspace. Ta da! Ticker gone:)

As for names....Luke is my favorite out of the ones you listed.

Normally I would say definitely choose the name you love best so you won't regret your decision...but if Brendan truly does not flow well with your last name, you might want to reconsider. I let go of an "S" name with our "S" last name and I have absolutely no regrets. Maybe keep looking? Dare I say it when you have a newborn in your arms?

Oh, and is it possible to give your little son two middle names? Maybe use Brendan as the first middle name to stop the awkward flow with your last name?

Congrats again, enjoy him and ignore the pesky friends and family who are pushing you to make a decision. It's too important to be rushed. *hugs*

Oh, we're driving everyone nuts! :D We have it down to Luke and Brendan or Brandon. People tell me I'll look at him and just know, but he looks like both! I want to use Luke because my husband likes it and he wants to use Brendan because I like it. Hopefully we'll get out of this loop soon and have a name! If we didn't have a middle name already, he'd probably be Brendan Luke. My biggest dilema is I want to name my little girl (if we have one next) Brianne, but my husband doesn't want two Br names. So I was thinking, use Luke now and then name the next one either Brianne or Brendan.

You could just give bubs three names... My in laws chose my hubby's first and middle name, and his brothers really wanted to call him Michael - so he has a third name too.;)

Just curious... Was your son born at home?
I'm only wondering because I see you're from the US and I didn't think you could leave the hospital without having a name for the birth certificate. Some friends of mine just had a baby and were quick trying to decide on a name. because of that I think.
Personally, I think unless you have the name all picked out before hand or you see the kid and "know" (rare though I'm sure) it can be good to wait longer (like is traditional in India).
Anyway, just curious is all. Let us know when you decide (but no pressure!!!)
