• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

It's a common thing to have doubts every once in a while, and God doesn't blame us for them. We're human, and it's a pretty hard thing to wrap our minds around the power that God has, or the love that He has for us. But it is important that in our questioning that we are seeking God for the answers.

If you are worried that you are a christian or not, think about this:

John 5:24 says:

"I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life."

It's not a complicted thing, being a christian. Though it may be difficult, and we go through trials (for the bible tells us that as we share in His joy, we must also share in His suffering), we know that, through God's grace, we are loved unconditionally no matter what we may do. It's His unending love that saves us.

Here's something I learned in my 20's--------Because the mind is so creative, it ponders many things that IT thinks could be. It likes to excercise itself this way. YOU make the mistake in BELIEVING everything it says. When I stopped taking its ramblings seriously, I was released from the doubts it came up with. I found out later that it really WAS full of crap in the things it was thinking about. As an older, and MUCH WISER person now, I'm glad I didn't try to make real what it was coming up with.

makes sense. plz ask god to help me be one with him again. i just want to worship in his presence
"the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." (John 4:2-24)

Some confuse feelings and emotions with "God's presence".
God is clear that you must receive His Spirit, you will know when this happens, you will speak in tongues ("praying in the Spirit") - Acts 2:4, 33, 39; 10:44-48, Jude 20.

The time to receive that is now, the way is by having faith and desire - do you trust God to give you the same as all the disciples got (and all true disciples today), and is there anything you want more ?

I too suffer from OCD, so I understand what you are going through. I suggest you don't look at the Bible as a book, but instead as an authority higher than whatever OCD thought that goes through your mind. See if what worries you lines up with scripture. If it doesn't, you can safely rebuke the thought and be at peace. This is something that has helped me tremendously. And I agree with AllTalkNoAction, believing isn't about feelings!

I will pray for you.

I completely understand where you are coming from, having suffered from depression all my life. Something that many people don't realize is that mental illness can sometimes shut off or dampen one's ability to feel the presence of God. Instead, a person is left feeling extremely empty and alone.

Where you are right now is the earthly equivalent of hell--which is complete separation from God. There is no greater psychological pain than that. What you have to do is try to remember that even though you can't feel Him right now, He is there with you. He will never leave you. He's just invisible to you right now.

Believing this will take more faith than you have ever had to use in your entire life. You will eventually regain your ability to feel His presence in your life. Until then, continue to pray and read the Bible.

Also, if you aren't getting any help right now, I would suggest you seek counseling. It will help you to get your brain back onto the right track again.

trust me . . .
We can only trust God.
When the resurrected Jesus spoke with disciples on the road to Emmaus their hearts burned within them, BUT they were not yet infilled with the Spirit. Many other people experiance various other things as they begin to look to God (see also Acts 9:5-16 for example).

Despite all this, it was not until they actually spoke in tongues (as The Spirit gave utterance) that the apostles judged that anyone had received the Spirit to indwell (Acts 2:4, 33, 39; 10:44-48, 19:5-6)
