  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Could you please give me more details of what exactly you mean?

Remember that your purity is in Christ and not in your own actions. That doesn't excuse reckless sinning, however its important to remember that you can not be "pure" on your own.

I agree... but more detail would be nice.

I'll just say give to God.. let him deal with it and let him teach you.

Well, as long as we're living in the flesh worldly urges will come.. we are all tempted and temptation is not a sin unless you give in to it whether mentally or physically. You gotta stay away from things that might cause you to have such urges. Temptations won't flee away from you... YOU have to runaway from them. Avoid things that might be your weakness and that might cause you to stumble...

Above all, I agree with Tannic. Give it to God... He'll give you the grace to say NO. We are all a work in progress but our goal is to live a Christ-like life more and more. Everyday is a battle of dying to self and living for God..... the deeper you grow in relationship with Him, the more you'll find joy in doing this. :D

Reflect on this: “But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it.” 1 Corinthians 10:13 :)[/COLOR]

As someone who recently devoted himself to Christ i constantly feel the urge and temptation to be impure whether it is external (direct or indirect) or internal. Any suggestions how to battle this?
It all begins with your thought life.....as you go through the day, if you allow sexual fantasies to get played out in your mind, see a hot girl and allow a few lustful thoughts to transpire, later that evening when your tired and weak, you won't be able to fight of any temptation. It all begins with the door step of your mind........Paul said hold every thought captive to Christ, (I take it as, if Jesus wouldn't allow it in His mind I won't either) Its tough at first, especially if there was no boundries and every and all lustful thoughts were given free reign in your mind, If you allow yourself to watch whatever program that might offer up some flesh, or listen to music that talks about sex, these are all gates to the mind. If you really want freedom from sexual sin and lust and the hour to hour barrage of tempting thoughts and ideas. put a stop to what you allow yourself to think about, and you will be amazed at the ability and strength you have to overcome all forms of sexual lust and sinful thoughts. the better and quicker you get at rebuking an evil thought and casting it down, you will see a huge drop in the frequency they come at you.......(my guess is demons leave and look for easier targets) another important part of this battle, make a comittment that you will never give up, nomatter how often you fail, don't quite, I remember my greatest breakthrough was after one of my worst failures......I think demons kinda know your own limits, when you put the limit at fighting to the death, they kinda realize your not going to give up, even if it kills ya!......sigh!......but when you finally realize that you have the victory, and you can't even remember the last time you gave in to those kinds of temptations, it puts a big smile on your face, because looking back you can see, how lust is really a tough bondage to break free from. And how it seemed every waking moment it was on your back, And the freedom Jesus gives you, is right there for the taking, I remember crying out to God I hate this in my life, take it away, and all the time it was available, I just had to shut the door of the temple, and do some strict screening for what got over the threshold.

I agree mostly with the above. It starts with a decision. From that point on it's a journey. Fall down - you get up. Fall down again, you get up again. etc

I once heard a good sermon on the subject, but the line I remember from it (or it might have actually been a tangent from the main message,) but anyway - the illustration was - an old dog is still stronger then a dead lion. (think that was it). So his point was, feed the dog and starve the lion.

I thought that was good advice. From my experience even better advice is give it to God and let him do whatever it takes to set you free from it.
That's usually a journey, but if you try to do it all in your own strength to please God, you can risk failing. With him, you get miracles occasionally and lots of help. If you ask him to do it, regardless - it's usually way faster, easier (and occasionally more brutal.)
But he won't kill you.

It's worthwhile asking him to make you as pure as he wants to as well. That will give you eyes to see so many things that the average person misses. And also enables you to avoid going over the top and being too legalistic or judgemental.
