okay ive made a thread about being in college and not liking it and its been over 3 weeks and i think its the same. i want to leave, but my parents are against it and i think if i transfer they'll really like hate me...my dad. i dunno what to do i feel like im having a breakdown and im so depressed...i dunno who to talk to and i feel so helpless...

CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey, i'm sorry you're strugging! I had my first day of college on thursday and the stress gave me a migrain all weekend!!! eek! My question for you is this: Do you have any Christian fellowship at your college? I can only imagine that college would be less than pleasent for you if you were dumped off somewhere without any Christian outlets and supporters.
If you don't have any support, do you think finding some would help at all? God put you there for a reason, I know He'll help if you turn to Him for answers.

Been there buddy so here is words from an old goob. If this is your freshman year, you are certainly dealing with a volume of issues: leaving home (maybe), rules (maybe), stress and course requirements (maybe) or an unusual environment with few friends (maybe).
My suggestion is this. If it is your freshman year, stay the quarter or semester. Complete it. This will do two things: 1. It will give you a chance to prove you can stick it out. 2. It will give you time to think of a new direction and pray for God's direction in your life.
Worse case scenario, when the quarter or session is completed, you will have that much under your belt for future use.
Dont let people tell you that college is for everyone. Dont let people tell you that you will never get a job if you dont have a degree. Its all a smokescreen. Yes, certain jobs require degrees but take this example. A fellow goes through 5.5 years to get a 4.0 year degree. Finally he gets a B.A. in Pre-law and goes into the world only to end up 15-16 years later working as a car parts delivery clown making $8 an hour.
Yep, thats me. I can testify I was never meant for college but I went and struggled anyway. I listened to people instead of listening to God.

I was in the same boat for the most part. Get involved. I know everyone says it, but it helps. Try to get into some Christian worship or bible studies. They have helped me a bunch and it helps in making friends. This should help you feel better and more comfortable at college.
God is always available to listen to you and waiting for you to talk to him. Remember that His will will be done and not ours. Whenever you are feeling depressed talk to Him or read the Word. It's helped me get through and its strengthen my relationship with God and helped my stay at college loads better.

Im in the same boat. But Im doing something about it. You absolutely must find a Christian group on campus and associate yourself with them as must as possible. I cannot tell you how much this has helped me. I quickly discovered here that Im really not as interested in my major (music) as I thought I was. But God brings good out of bad, and I think, just from talking to people in my Christian group, that God is calling me to be a minister of his Word.
Go figure.
Even though I tend to dislike the situation Im in, it is precisely because I am in this situation that I am finding out where God is calling me.
Look, hold out for the semester. Find good Christian friends. Pray. If you get bored reading your textbooks, put them down and pick up the Bible.
Ultimately, the Bible has more important stuff in it anyway.
I will admit that I have not been totally keeping up with my studies, but being at college has given me opportunities that I never would have gotten elsewhere.

3 weeks isn't very long. If you are feeling overwhelmed and depressed, I would suggest talking to your pastor and looking into whether your college offers a counselling service. Most colleges do have something. Lots of people just starting out in college feel the same way as you, and sometimes talking it over with someone can help.

I would agree that you need to find a organization and get involved....this way you have a sense of belonging...the first semester is the hardest one but if you truly feel like this is where God wants you then He will show the way to make yourself happy....give yourself some time, and if next semester you still feel the same way, pray about and see what God has to say...I am now a senior and have one more semester left, but my first semester I felt the same way I wanted to go home and get back in my comfort zone, but if I had I would have lost so many opportunities and experiences!!

Find someone to talk to in person - a pastor or a counsler, most schools have them. GET ONE not because you are going crazy, because you ain't but you are going through what a LOT of kids do. and it will help. Find a good advisor get career advisement. Get on your school website and find some interesting clubs to join. At least go check them out. Get to know your roommate (if you have one) meet people. Stick it out for the semester...That way even if you end up transfering you will have credits to transfer which you will not regret, and you will have experience and know what to expect and where to go to get things done no matter where you end up. and PRAY!!! God loves you. And if you ever need to talk, IM or PM me. seriously 
I have been there done that and had mooey trouble with parents I even got kicked out of my house. It will be hard, but you can do it. talk to someone anyone a lot of people. it will help, even if it just helps with the depression.

I totally and completely get how you feel!! I really don't like it here, but I am going to finish at least the quarter here. In the meantime, I'm praying that God will show me if I'm suposed to be here or not. I'll pray for you...everything will work out. Pm me, or im me or whatever if you ever need to talk to someone.

Whats up bro!!!! Wow lots of good advice here already! Its so hard man getting out of the home and moving to a strange enviroment. Trust me I can relate with you on that. I came to school as a theatre major and the stress hit me right away. Plays, school, work, fraternity, girl friend, homework.......but hmmmmm no God. Well I decided that since I was so dang bussy and wasnt adding God that I should just add a religion major (LOL I wouldnt suggest this). As I became so involved with school and my school's chapal I found myself having alot more fun! Im now a Religion major pre seminary !!!! Our Lord works in such strange way. Keep praying and keep that head up buddy. The first year is the hardest.
Maybe that school isnt for you. If its not you must remember that it is your life no one elses (aside from the Lord ) and it is you yourself you must live with the rest of your life. Prayer and more prayer and keep in that Bible the Lord will show you his way and I'm most confident you will hear him calling bro!!
