hello experts,

need your help please! i have just split a web stream file of 24 mb file size into two to create a 12 mb per file. my problem is, i need a script or any tip on how to continuously play the two files so as that webstream viewers will not click a part 2 button just to finish watching the clip.

your help shall be highly appreciated.

many thanks!

What format are your clips in, and are you running on a streaming server, or just running a "pesudo" streaming server ?

at the moment, im testing the web stream and is going on very well. the file is on .wmv format as it is still under observation and testing and when everything goes smoothly, shall include real and quicktime next.

sample: => mms://www.pmcc4thwatch.com/salvation56k.wmv <=

i am personally hosting the streaming server through one of my dedicated win2k3 box. the reason i wanted to split the files are for me to cater to bigger streaming files to facilitate lesser buffering and or streaming delays should more individuals attempt to connect to the server.

There's no clean way to do this with MMS. You can set it up as sort of a two-piece playlist, but then you're faced with the challenge of not allowing play control (and users connecting to the stream may start the video in the middle), or allowing play control (and only the first person who connects can play, stop, pause, etc.). Neither is a good option.

I can't say I've dealt with Real or Quicktime much, but I know there's no real way to do this with MMS. Of course, that's not to say that there isn't some third-party software or clever trick to doing it, but there's nothing built-in that will do what you're wanting.

Hi 4thwatcher,

Don't know if you've considered SWF format, most people/browsers have flash player installed these days. You could import your wmv into SWISHvideo and export to streaming swf, complete with controls. If your movie is already in two parts, you could create two separate swf movies, then send your viewers to the second movie automatically, or even another URL. I don't have any direct experience with SWISHvideo, but their other products, ie, Swish and SwishMax have a great reputation. They always add more features, and listen to their user base for improvements. Anyway, take a peek :

SWiSHvideo - $39.95
Introductory Offer: $10 off regular price of $49.95
Introductory discount offer ends September 30th 2004.
