  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hi all,

We live in the South Bay area in California and we're looking for an all-natural birth. We have Kaiser Permanente insurance and their idea of a natural birth is FAR from what we want. We're not rich (I'm a teacher and she's a chiropractic student) but all we want is something that VERY low key. We essentially want a homebirth, but not at home. She's nervous (being our first pregnancy) and wants to have it some place where they are "all set up" for us (not with drugs and whatnot, just birthing bars, tubs, etc.) We can't seem to find anything good- we got set up with a midwife through our insurance but the facility they have us going to is a HOSPITAL that is "outfitted" with oak doors on the cabinets. It's still the same, basic thing.

Here's a task for all you interneters out there- find us a birthing facility w/ a midwife that will cater to our needs...

PLEASE HELP US!!!

Thanks,
CJ

I'd contact a local Bradley Childbirth instructor. http://www.bradleybirth.com/ She would be sure to have good information for you. Including inside info on your local hospitals.

All hospitals are not the same. Do you have choices as far as hospitals go? I had a choice between two. One was super natural childbirth friendly (waterbirths, LDRP rooms, big ol' queen sized bed for mom and dad to stay in, NO NURSERY..oak doors LOL). The other had a 48% c-section rate (egads!) You can guess which one I went with and I had a GREAT experience. No meds, no interventions, no one bugging me, fabulous nurses...room service. Just because it is a hospital, doesn't necessarily mean it's bad.

I was really determined to have a completely natural birth, the first three were born in hospitals, and I had to pretty much force the Dr. to not even do an epistiotamy. (don't know how to spell it) I was induced with all three. By the time our fourth came along, I was ready to break the law and have a midwife at home. Our fourth and fifth were both breach, born at home, without complications. We were prepared for if a complication would come up. We had a plan so to speak.

I'm not sure what to tell you other than, I wish we had broken the law before, about 3 times, though one of the boys had to be put in an incubator, so who knows what our lives would be or how different things would be. I think the key is pray and trust God one way or the other. He knows what we need before we ask. That includes the birth of your baby.

May you know God's will in this, may you see His guidance.

BTW, congratulations!

sorry seige, can't help with specific hospital info - being in another country and all - but I did want to say this to encourage you...
Even if you do end up going to a hospital, it's not a prison. You can say no, they can't force something on you. If you and your wife do your research, use a midwife/doula as well to help you, then you'll be better able to be confidant and stick closely to your birthplan.
It may not be ideal... but at least if you have no other choice you can be prepared...

I do not know to much about the subject but I do know you have rights. I'm not from there so I do not know what rights you all have, but here pregnant women have the right to refuse treatment if they don't agree with it. I am going for natural birth this time. 1st was c section. May the Lord give you two grace and have the hospital do it your and give you two the strength to stand up for what you beleive in.:amen:

Best wishes.
