I'm a rather new Christian, and lately I've been dealing with so much fear that God doesn't love me. And I feel like He is pushing me away when I try to pray to Him. I feel scared now to go to Him... Please help me. I'm not sure what to do! I feel like He doesn't want to love me or forgive me for my sins...

Congratulations. You are in good company. That is exactly the way Satan convinced Adam and Eve to feel... and it made them do just what Satan wants all of us to do, start distancing ourselves from God.

Don't go for it. Thank God that you are obviously doing something right... so right, that Satan wants to get you to stop doing it.

Now, get back in there, and kick Satan's tail by searching out your Daddy, God, and hugging Him like there is no tomorrow!

You are so much on track that Satan is working overtime to get you sidetracked. Keep on, keeping on.

How is your relationship with your real dad?
Is he someone who intimidates you?
Does he expect too much of you?

I've found that a lot of people who feel like God is pushing
them away, or that God doesn't love them are the ones who don't have good
relationships with their earthly dads and that's skewers how they think God
views them because they mistakenly think God is like their earthy dads.

Hey girl,

God loves us despite being sinners. That is his attitude, and the only truly sinless person that ever lived was Jesus Christ, and He does not condemn us for our sins either, and He is the Son of God who is the Lord now.

You must make a difference between the bad sins and what I'd call normal sins. For example, it's a problem if you want to be violent to someone, but it would not be such a big problem if you were gay or missed a service on Sunday or wanted to be selfish for a day. Jesus also came and died for us to be set free from the old Law of Moses. The law of Moses was a huge big rulebook on so many details, for example you could, back then, be stoned to death if you carried wood to burn at home on a Sunday because you were not supposed to work on a holiday. But Jesus came and explained to us that the Holidays were supposed to be a gift for us, not a burden to us, and so stoning someone for working on a holiday was not right and an evil in itself.

I would encourage you to take your bible and read the 10 commandments. They also belong to the Law of Moses, but when you read it you will find that they are commandments that are very easy to obey and don't mean a burden to us. There are many unbelievers who obey these commandments in their lives without complaining ever, so why should we christians worry about them? Then there are the 2 love commandments, which for Jesus meant the most, to love God the most, and to love your neighbor like yourself. We love God by letting God love us, because God is big and we are small, and God loves us more than we love Him, and we love our neighbor by understanding that we are like each other and that we need to be happy together.

About your sins, little sister, I speak God's forgiveness to you. We christians can do that for each other, because we are all little priests of God according to St. Paul in the bible. God gladly and warmly forgives you all of your sins and says He never left you and loves you dearly and you are close to His heart. You surely did nothing really awful and you are young still and you were probably a bit confused. You are not a complete child anymore but don't let the strange world of the grown-ups confuse you so much and remember that for God we will always be little children. Jesus died on a cross to make a sign how much God loves us and this Jesus on the cross is worth more than all of the world's sins, I mean not just your sins or mine but the sins of the whole world. So God will not judge anyone because He knows that He can do something better than judgment, He can forgive you abundantly and bring you back close to His heart and you will praise Him and that is much much much much better for God than when He would condemn you and you run away. You get forgiveness and love and God gets the glory that belongs to Him and so everything is fine and perfect.

God bless you, little sister. Say the Lord's prayer and say, "Abba, I trust you, Jesus, I trust you, Holy Spirit, I trust you". God will hear this and come to you. Listen to a song on youtube, from the young Ofra Haza, "It is called Im Nin Alu"

It means, even when the gates of the rich are closed, the gates of God are always open! This is how faithful Jews understood God and His reign!!!

Thanks everyone. Yes actually my dad expects a lot from me and I think I'm afraid of him too. He doesn't abuse me, but he yells a lot.

Thank you for the answers so far :)

By the way, I'm NOT a girl. That's the 4th time someone's mistaken me for one, dang it! Lol.

LOL--sometimes I have been mistaken for a man--I guess the little pictures next to our names should be bigger!!

And it is only too true that if we do not have kind, loving parents it is hard to picture a kind loving God. Male or female, to babies and young children, their parents are God until they learn enough to understand there is an actual God above them. My 3 older brothers have been angry at God all their lives, and so was I for many years--and it all stemmed from a very mean, angry father.
Satan doesn't have to work very hard to just keep on telling us God is mean, angry and out to get us and is unforgiving. He says it to all converts, and tries to make them feel that you can not be forgiven as your sins were too horrible---Do not believe it! You have to take Gods word on faith--He says He will forgive, and He does, which means you have to forgive yourself also and just accept His love and forgiveness and do not keep asking Him to forgive you for the same sin over and over. That's a lack of faith. You ask for it, He gives it--end of discussion, move on to the next thing (and don't do it again!--as He said to the adultress woman--go and sin no more)--if you stumble again, He will forgive you again. He is patient and leads us gently along the way to getting closer to Him. Just ask Him to help you to love Him. He has promised to give us a heart of flesh to replace our hearts of stone. He understands your upbringing, and will not use it against you, but try to lead you into accepting and giving love. God bless.

Dear ChristianNewbie123. You had some good replies, and here is one more.
Jesus has very good advice for you. In Matthew 22: 35-40: Jesus tells a Lawyer: " The first and great Commandment is: " Love God with all thy heart, with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. The second is like it: Love thy neighbour as thyself." Then Jesus gives us this great fact: " On these two Commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." God wants our Love, freely given and NO conditions asked. You say that you are afraid of God, show God now, that you love God and follow His Commandments to love and care. All you say and do, all you advice or stand for, let it be from Love and Compassion. God will see your sincere efforts, and God will approve and Bless you. Remember, Satan runs away from Love and Kindness, and you can be sure that God is with you. Jesus our Saviour, will help and guide you,
and with God and Jesus by your side, Who or What can be against you.?
Start by treating all you know and all you meet, friends and not friends, treat them as you would love to be treated. Love is a Christian`s great weapon,
and Love will always protect you and Love will always be victorious.
Matthew 7: 7-10: tells us: " ask and ye shall receive." Then thank God and share all Love and Joy with your neighbour. Keep asking for Love and Joy,
then thank God and share all with your neighbour. You will find that Love is very catching, and gradually you will find that you are changing from being selfish and unloving, to be loving and caring. God is Love, and God wants loving sons and daughters. I say this with love, ChristianNewbie.
Greetings from Emmy, your sister in Christ.

Some guys are better at reasoning with people than others are. If they yell its because they don't know a better way or they think that is the most effective way to get their point across. They mean well most of the time.

CN,

Oftentimes when we come to God we take our worldly presuppositions with us. If we had a stern unloving upbringing, that is what we project on God. But now the issue is worse, because it's GOD we're dealing with, not merely parents, teachers or other human authority.

This is where abiding in the Word comes in. Check out the father in the Prodigal Son story in Luke 15. He saw the son returning while the son was still a long way off. Check out Jesus' wonderful invitation to rest at the end of Matthew 11. Or the Last Supper discourse of John 14-15, where Jesus tells His disciples to abide in His Peace.

The more you learn about the Cross, and how Jesus has already fully paid our sin debt (actually, He lavishly overpaid it), the more you will love Him. He who is forgiven much, loves much. And the more you will come to peace and, with humility, understand your exalted position in Him.

My teenage experience was definitely a battle between entertainment and school education as I found television entertainment, especially with Playstation at that time when home videogame entertainment was absolutely through the roof on the confidence booster scale:.
My parents have no idea what playing videogames can do emotionally, thinking closed-mindedly that videogames have no educational consequences: an unfortunate experience only because their being born in the mid 1930s was an era where the electronic industry was still in it's small beginnings:.
Believe it or not, I now own an LG 3D 60 inch plasma TV, a Panasonic 3D bluray 500GB HDD recorder, an Xbox 360 console and wireless headphones as I often watch and listen to Christian TV ministry programs, such as Kenneth Copeland, Joyce Meyer, Benny Hinn, Life Today and Tomorrow's World timer-recorded from the 3D bluray HDD recorder:.
My home theater is like an electronic Hawaii-paradise experience and I thank Jesus for allowing this electronic heaven to prevent mankind's modern society's most common disease: depression or anxiety, or a mixture of both where Satan wants us lose faith in a God who created matter that exists in all living and non-living objects, such as the case with my home theater:.
Every time I think about the kingdom of God, as I compare with all the new advances of my electronic home entertainment system, God's future-coming kingdom is so much light years ahead of our present 21st century, we as Christians all wonder what "supernatural science and technology" that exists inside the kingdom of God where it is totally fire-proof, wear and tear proof, and even hazard-proof from bad bacteria and viruses, toxic chemicals, and climate conditions where extreme hot or cold temperatures could cause construction damage .;'*';. Rev 21:2

FWIW, it might help to practice removing your feelings from what you know to be the truth. If you believe God's word to be true and reliable, then you know you can stand on God's promises about love, grace, forgiveness, acceptance, etc. The way you feel is probably based on earthly things, like your own insecurities, your fears of your own dad, etc. When you start to feel like God doesn't love you or care about you, tell yourself that your emotions aren't based on truths, and then crack open your Bible and start reading some of God's promises out loud, and keep at it until you notice a change in your spirit.

I cannot see how the same God that called you to salvation by grace, could possibly push you away.. This would be contrary to His efforts that He began with..
As far as the fear of God.. that is right where the Christian soldier ought to be.. we are to fear the Lord..
Did you know that it says in the bible, that the fear of God is the beginning of wisdom..
like I said, "you are right where you ought to be".... blessings

No, I'm not supposed to be so afraid of Him that I'm too scared to pray! That "fear of The Lord" means having a high respect for who He is. Otherwise, why would God or the angels say "do not be afraid"?

God obviously has a nature and throughout the bible you hear that God is love, but to be more exact God is agape love which is the highest form of love.

He cant go against his nature which means he loves you so much.
Here is a poem that I will never forget that shows me his love for us all :)
Hope it helps you as well my friend.

I Thirst for You prayer

It is true. I stand at the door of your heart, day and night. Even when you are not listening, even when you doubt it could be Me, I am there. I await even the smallest sign of your response, even the least whispered invitation that will allow Me to enter.
And I want you to know that whenever you invite Me, I do come – always, without fail. Silent and unseen I come, but with infinite power and love, and bringing the many gifts of My Spirit. I come with My mercy, with My desire to forgive and heal you, and with a love for you beyond your comprehension – a love every bit as great as the love I have received from the Father ("As much as the Father has loved me, I have loved you…" (Jn. 15:10) I come - longing to console you and give you strength, to lift you up and bind all your wounds. I bring you My light, to dispel your darkness and all your doubts. I come with My power, that I might carry you and all your burdens; with My grace, to touch your heart and transform your life; and My peace I give to still your soul.
I know you through and through. I know everything about you. The very hairs of your head I have numbered. Nothing in your life is unimportant to Me. I have followed you through the years, and I have always loved you – even in your wanderings. I know every one of your problems. I know your needs and your worries. And yes, I know all your sins. But I tell you again that I love you – not for what you have or haven’t done – I love you for you, for the beauty and dignity My Father gave you by creating you in His own image. It is a dignity you have often forgotten, a beauty you have tarnished by sin. But I love you as you are, and I have shed My Blood to win you back. If you only ask Me with faith, My grace will touch all that needs changing in your life, and I will give you the strength to free yourself from sin and all its destructive power.
I know what is in your heart – I know your loneliness and all your hurts – the rejections, the judgments, the humiliations, I carried it all before you. And I carried it all for you, so you might share My strength and victory. I know especially your need for love – how you are thirsting to be loved and cherished. But how often have you thirsted in vain, by seeking that love selfishly, striving to fill the emptiness inside you with passing pleasures – with the even greater emptiness of sin. Do you thirst for love? "Come to Me all you who thirst…" (Jn. 7: 37). I will satisfy you and fill you. Do you thirst to be cherished? I cherish you more than you can imagine – to the point of dying on a cross for you.
I Thirst for You. Yes, that is the only way to even begin to describe My love for you. I THIRST FOR YOU. I thirst to love you and to be loved by you – that is how precious you are to Me. I THIRST FOR YOU. Come to Me, and I will fill your heart and heal your wounds. I will make you a new creation, and give you peace, even in all your trials I THIRST FOR YOU. You must never doubt My mercy, My acceptance of you, My desire to forgive, My longing to bless you and live My life in you. I THIRST FOR YOU. If you feel unimportant in the eyes of the world, that matters not at all. For Me, there is no one any more important in the entire world than you. I THIRST FOR YOU. Open to Me, come to Me, thirst for Me, give me your life – and I will prove to you how important you are to My Heart.
Don’t you realize that My Father already has a perfect plan to transform your life, beginning from this moment? Trust in Me. Ask Me every day to enter and take charge of your life. – and I will. I promise you before My Father in heaven that I will work miracles in your life. Why would I do this? Because I THIRST FOR YOU. All I ask of you is that you entrust yourself to Me completely. I will do all the rest.
Even now I behold the place My Father has prepared for you in My Kingdom. Remember that you are a pilgrim in this life, on a journey home. Sin can never satisfy you, or bring the peace you seek. All that you have sought outside of Me has only left you more empty, so do not cling to the things of this life. Above all, do not run from Me when you fall. Come to Me without delay. When you give Me your sins, you gave Me the joy of being your Savior. There is nothing I cannot forgive and heal; so come now, and unburden your soul.
No matter how far you may wander, no matter how often you forget Me, no matter how many crosses you may bear in this life; there is one thing I want you to always remember, one thing that will never change. I THIRST FOR YOU – just as you are. You don’t need to change to believe in My love, for it will be your belief in My love that will change you. You forget Me, and yet I am seeking you every moment of the day – standing at the door of your heart and knocking. Do you find this hard to believe? Then look at the cross, look at My Heart that was pierced for you. Have you not understood My cross? Then listen again to the words I spoke there – for they tell you clearly why I endured all this for you: "I THIRST…"(Jn 19: 28). Yes, I thirst for you – as the rest of the psalm – verse I was praying says of Me: "I looked for love, and I found none…" (Ps. 69: 20). All your life I have been looking for your love – I have never stopped seeking to love you and be loved by you. You have tried many other things in your search for happiness; why not try opening your heart to Me, right now, more than you ever have before.
Whenever you do open the door of your heart, whenever you come close enough, you will hear Me say to you again and again, not in mere human words but in spirit. "No matter what you have done, I love you for your own sake Come to Me with your misery and your sins, with your troubles and needs, and with all your longing to be loved. I stand at the door of your heart and knock. Open to Me, for I THIRST FOR YOU…"
