  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Help me compile my first hymn playlist.

Hi everyone, I'm relatively new here, and in many ways relatively new to Christianity. I'm really trying to learn new ways to praise God, and I really feel like hymns and songs should play a crucial role in that. I've been loving reading through this forum, but there is just SO MUCH CHRISTIAN MUSIC OUT THERE! That is really exciting, and I look forward to listening to more and more as time goes on but right now, I'm quite overwhelmed.

So I'd really like some help getting started. Tell me the hymns and songs I should put on my first playlist, that I should really get acquainted with first, whether they're the classics (I pretty much know Amazing Grace, which I just love :) ) or just your absolute favorites.

Thank you so much everybody! :)

Hey there,

Praise God... It sounds like you've had some life-changing things happen. I love hymns. I'm also a musician, so I like to spend some time making new arrangements of my favorite hymns. Here are my favorites. Enjoy and God bless.

Abide With Me
Abide With Me (music and lyrics) - YouTube
Holy Holy Holy
Holy, holy, holy (music and lyrics) - YouTube
Cleanse Me
Cleanse Me (Search me, O God) Lyrics and Music - YouTube
Jesus Loves Me (I know it is a children's song, but it is still awesome)
"Jesus Loves Me" (Lyrics and Music) - YouTube
Abide With Me (an animation I made)

Not knowing what type of computer program you are using, you can download them from YouTube by using RealPlayer.

I just posted 10 YouTube Videos that Alan Jackson has done as he is one of mine and my wife's favorite artists. He has a couple CDs out that are nothing but Hymns. He has close to 30 hymns out there currently and that does not include any Christmas ones.

This is the thread where you can find 10 of them... http://www.christianforums.com/t7792042/
They start at post #6 and there are 3 to 4 videos per post.

Orthodox Church music is quite different than what you're used to. Older and certainly more Byzantine. My favorites.

The Phos Hilarion (O Gladsome Light) is the oldest known Christian hymn:

The Anaphora (Holy, Holy, Holy- Lord of Sabbaoth)- it's in Slavonic as I couldn't find this in English- sorry:
