THats my whole argument, boot camp does not have to be like that nor AIT, and I actually just looked it up and the more approprate term is bullying for what goes on at basic and AIT. It is totally unacceptable, bullying does not end after basic/AIT. There are good people in the military but there are a vast number of people who are not good. The problem with the military is if you hold rank you are not really held accountable for your actions like you are in the civilian world which makes the military especailly bad. I agree in the civilian world there is sin as well but at least there is more accountability. If you are a sgt or officer in the military there is a great deal you can get away with before you have to answer up and thats wrong.

The funny thing is i am technically still in the military (I am in the process of being discharged) and the way I got out was the way I suggested (of course I was in the national guard which is a whole different ball game) I find it very difficult to hold my toung towards thoes that are ex military hardliners who violate human rights in the name of training or disipline but I will do my best. I think it is very important for people considering joining or who have joined to know that things are not hopeless and people telling them to hang in there does not help there situation, it is meaningless banter to make the poster feel good.

Hey, I did the two year training thing too and attended DLI. It certainly wasn't always easy but there was a 'fit' for me. I didn't read through all this thread and am not sure how you are doing, but I'll be praying for you. DLI alone can really cause stress. First of all, it's not known as the 'Defense Love Institute' for nothing and there are plenty of problems in that area plus factor in the stress of all that coursework...hang in there.

Okay, just read through this.

There will always be people that see the worst in the military. Just as there are those who have no trust of police officers or politicians or what have you.

You really cannot change opinions and why try?

Thank God for our troops. Continue to pray for those deployed and please, do not forget to pray for their families who miss them terribly and worry constantly.

Hey, Jesuschickseven.

Just to give some context to my words. I was a medic serving in military forces. I can only give some basic general thoughts as a believer who has served in military forces. You will be exposed to the most aweful swearing, rudest people, arrogant etc. That comes with the territory, but having said that I actually enjoyed some of my time. One of my deployments was about 2000 miles from home. I must be honest and say there were other Christians, but there was no church. That was when my journey of really getting close to the Lord started the most seriously. I have grown into the believer and servant of the Lord (in ministry) that I have partly thanks to some of that experience.

This might become your biggest growth point in the Lord. I think for me there was the OC who was a believer, but I couldn't exactly hang out with him! There was one other born again believer. Others were attenders but nothing really deep.

Remember that as a believer, we are called to be salt. Salt is no use if it is not in contact with meat. This is your opportunity to serve Him. Every area in life, the Lord needs His servants to preserve the meat. Imagine if there wasn't even you as a believer there. There will be others who, without you realising, will be watching for their own hope. They need you (Even if they don't believe.)

A neighbour of ours who was sergeant, said to my Dad when I started, that it would either "Make or Break him spiritually. Let this MAKE you. Which ever way, be victorious in the Lord.
