• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I need some advice since it's going to be another 4 or 5 days till my first counselling session:

Can God tell a person that thinks they're saved that they're really not through a circumstance?

Like can a person make a vow that if this or this event happens that means that God is saying that they were never saved to begin with?

God can speak to us in many ways, but that isn't the issue here. I mean, we can't go around thinking things like, "Oh no, I tripped on the curb on my way into the walmart! Is God trying to tell me that he doesn't want me to go there to buy groceries?"

Remember, there is a reason you're going to see counseling. Your OCD is going to make you think illogically in many ways.

I think about that sometimes when I see a car with flame stickers no it, like God is trying to tell me something, but God is not the author of confusion. He isn't going to confuse you with obscure signs and messages constantly that you would never understand. For me if God is talking to me I feel like I get this good, warm, almost tingly feeling. It's hard to describe, but some of the coolest God moments in my life have felt like that. If you go out trying to interpret everything as a sign, your mind will lead you to some nasty places, but if you listen for God and learn to recognize when He is speaking and when He is not then you will benefit. That's a hard thing to do, especially with OCD, but all you need to do is pray and ask Him to teach you to listen, and He'll work with you on it.

Thanks guys.

Just now, I had a moment where my family gave me check as a gift. But then at one point, I suddenly made prediction that this or this would happen and if it did, then receiving this money would mean that I was never saved to begin with. And it the event happened, though not major, but somehow I'm interpreting it as major.

It's like my mind is purposely seeking signs from God for affirmation, whether negative or positive. But mostly negative. I feel very troubled by this.

It's like God's out to get me or something like that. I know He's not. But still.

I sometimes feel the same way. Luckily God is a lot bigger than we think He is and isn't looking to bring wrath down on us for everything we do. Thankfully for us, He isn't evil and doesn't get his kicks from picking on us.
