I don't know, Kenith. I have gotten the impression that the Presbyterian Cross would not completely distinguish me from the PCUSA. Anyway, the deed is now done. I am officially a Calvinist in the PCA.

Yeah, but you are Reformed Baptist. My bad, I should have qualified that as "Southern Baptist".

If I've told this story already, I apologize.

A year or so ago at work it was quiet so we were just talking about whatever. Now I never discuss my faith at work, but this particular day I couldn't help myself.

Not sure how the subject came up but one of my co-workers made a negative comment about Baptists - a generalized Baptists are_______ (I don't remember what her point was, probably something about them being bigots or hypocrites - but I digress). I couldn't resist - I just casually mentioned the fact that I'm a Baptist. Her response (direct quote here), "you can't be a Baptist, you drink margaritas!"

Well, the joke is one we good ol' Southern Presbyterians like to tease our good ol' Southern Baptist brethren with.

But it is true.

I can top this one. Now, I wasn't there (and have never attended the church I'm going to discuss), but one of my church brothers has a friend who attends a non-denominational, charismatic, arminian church (I'm being kind here - I've seen the pastor on t.v. and think he borders on heresy). His friend related that one Sunday they were taking a special collection for the pastor's birthday. Supposedly the doors of the sanctuary were locked until they got the amount they wanted.

Now, I can't swear to the veracity of this story - but from what I know of the church in question, I believe it.

I haven't seen that sort of thing personally, but like yourself, have heard stories.

With all the Benny Hinn wannabees in charismania I would not be surprised at all at the veracity of the stories.

yes I have been off work for a week with a flu virus , I hope to be back on Monday ........ i never used to get much worse than a cold , but these last couple of years I get hammered ?

I would recommend the flu shot, but I got one once and went on a 3 day bender over it. I had never been so sick with the flu and if that wasn't bad enough, I got it again over Thanksgiving in November visiting some relatives. Now, I steer clear of a flu shot and I don't think I've had it since.

Any way, glad you are doing better.

thanks CCWoody .............. I have considered the flew jab , but I have heard it can knock you sideways ... I know an old boy (I am so PC) who never had the flu in his life , he had the jab and got a bad dose .............. he was not a happy bunny

Sorry - the nurse in me has to jump in here.

The "flu shot" is for influenza, a severe respiratory infection (fever, chills, sore throat, cough which can lead to pneumonia - generally lasts about 1 week). It is not a live virus vaccine and as such can't give a person influenza.

What most people refer to as flu (vomiting/diarrhea) is a gastrointestinal virus unrelated to influenza.

Now I'm not saying you didn't have influenza, I'm just pointing out the differences.
