I belong to a tiny, mostly urban and rather obscure Indian ethnic group with our own traditional religion. It doesn't say much about God or gods. It's essentially about doing good, avoiding evil and perfecting our conduct. People who have mastered reason, overpowering compulsiveness and evil intentions are said to have attained "enlightenment". I have never met such a person, but then again, I've never met any gods either. Perhaps both are meant to be ideals we aspire to, I don't know.

Anyway, my question is this: Is there any good reason I'd want to convert to Christianity? My parents tell me there has never been apostasy in our religion. (we call it "irona"; I have no idea what others call it)

Hi freff,

One of the great things about forums like this is the ability to encounter people from all over the world. I've lived my entire life in the United States, except for a couple of years that I spent in Germany and France as a child. So it's unlikely that I would have ever encountered someone from your part of the world in real life without the internet.

The best way to learn about Christianity is to read the four gospels which record the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. I think it's best to have a book version. However, if that's not possible, you can also read it online at BibleGateway.com:

The Gospel of Matthew
The Gospel of Mark
The Gospel of Luke
The Gospel of John

Jesus Christ did not come to boss us around, but to invite us into a deeper, more loving relationship with God and our fellow humans. Hence nobody is forced to worship Jesus, but instead we are all asked to look at Jesus as He appears in the gospels and decide whether we wish to follow Him.

I would say in the area of virtue you are correct and that is much of what Jesus Christ expects of us (Mark 12:28-34), calls blessed (matthew 5:1-12), has saved us for (ephesians 2:8-10), and will judge all by (Matthew 25:31-46, Romans 2:11-16). The problem is that we are weighed down by sin that left unrepented of could deny us salvation (see 1st letter of John (1:5-10) and only Jesus Christ saves us (see Romans 10:9-13). If you need these verses lookd up see BibleGateway.com: A searchable online Bible in over 100 versions and 50 languages.

Yes:
Are you a good person? www.livingwaters.com/good/ The spiritual reason.

The intellectual reason:
Research the credibility of the bible concerning overwhelming evidence which is very high even though it’s a spiritual decision first.

Visit: www.TheBibleProofBook.com, (you will need acrobat reader for this), read The Evidence That Demands A Verdict by Josh McDowell a former agnostic- (its overwhelming circumstantial evidence of bible) and Examine the Evidence by Muncaster a former athiest/The Case for Christ and The Real Jesus by Lee Strobel a former athiest. www.equip.org (articles), http://www.gotquestions.org/,, http://christiananswers.net/
