  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hey, I'm Mandy, age 15, Aquarious, and female, of course.
I was a normal Christian when a friend of mine told me about the Harry Potter books and I became a big fan of them when I started reading the first book.
During the next year after that, I met a group of kids who were nice to me until I told them I wanted to be Sailor Moon during a role playing game we were doing at the park. They were all being people from The Bible. They all looked at me and started talking bad about her, so I just said I would be Hermione Granger from the HP books. That's when they started doing the "Harry Potter is evil!" thing to me until I cried. I only stopped when mom saw me crying and took me away from them and told them to stop being mean to me. (I was young. If it was recent, I could have defended myself)
Then a nearby library was throwing a party for the movie. It was a genneral Harry Potter party. I was really happy because I was tired of running into kids like the group I ran into at the park. I was soo looking forward to it.
Then a group of protesters protested in front of the library for three or four days, maybe evan a week, until they cancelled it. It was then I decided to not be as Christian as I was before then.
Then I met a girl named Hannah. She was the only kid in the whole naborhood, so we played on her swing set. It was too small for me, so we played crocet. It was really boring for the both of us, so I decided to make a little quiditch game out of the stuff. We used mallets as brooms and her dog with one of the balls as the snitch. Hannah the sport queen won of course, but then her dad came out and asked us what we were doing. I thought they were a normal family, so I told him what we were doing. Then he got mad and told me I couldn't play with her unless we played "wholesome" games. I left. A while after that I fond a witchcraft section at the library and looked at the book covers. I couldn't get the books because of my parents, so I just tried to be the best Wiccan I could be without any knowledge of it. I did a poor job until I asked my mom about a year later if I could get the books. She said yes, so I started to become a Wiccan.
I was the biggest Wiccan ever. I felt better then than ever. And I was free to read what I wanted.
Then I got a computer after being Wiccan for about 3 or 4 years and joined Pagan forums. They all seemed to talk about Christians being intolerant toward them, but most of them didn't share the same disliking of it as I did.
With internet access and the fact that spiritual fulfilment wasn't good enough for me anymore because of my grudge against Christians (I only told you some of the things that happened to me because I like Harry Potter!), I decided to go to the farthest point I knew: Satanism.
I was a teeny-bopper Satanist until I was 14 and a half. I was a LeVayan Satanist through the rest of my time in Paganism.
When I started to look for the candles for the altar, I fond plenty white, but when I went to the other place I usually went to for that stuff, the only ones left were for display only and they wouldn't get them in anymore. That was the only place that sold black candles.
I was trying to think about what to do when I thought of the long time I spent away from the God I began to hate because of some stupid people. I thought of the good Christians that were good to the planet, such as Mother Teresa and others. I then slowly became a Christian, and I have recently got into Catholicism. I am now 15. (Duh!)

Mind you, it would be easier to relate to everything that happened if I had typed it in full, but I honestly just wanted to get this post done.

Anyway, now I plan on becoming Catholic officially when I become an adult. (My parents are Baptist's and have to work on the weekends, so we don't go to Church.) Then I plan on becoming a missionary and becoming a nun when I retire.

That's basically it for now. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Welcome to CF! You have a very interesting background, thank you for sharing it. You're actually the first person I've heard become Wiccan from Harry Potter (as they're really not much alike) - guess the old Christian fear is true? :p Just kidding.. erm, well kinda, it is a touchy subject here.. :sorry:

You wish to be a missionary, that's a mighty goal! Do you have ideas on where you'd like to go? :)

That's only part of the reason, actually... Harry Potter didn't do anything at all to my religion, it was the protesters that made me loose my faith. Basically, they recked my life, so I tried to reck Christianity. I now realize that becoming a Satanist (I'm not calling Paganism Satanic, I really was a Satanist!) to get back at them is a waste of time, because I'm only hurting myself and my Christian friends. Those people, I now realize, are off burning HP books, Marilyn Manson CDs, and Hot Topic gift cards, and unable to see they turned me into what they hated because of their hatred. If I become the best darn Christian and stand up for Harry Potter, than I should give the fantasy books a good name. Some day, Hannah might be a drug addict and I will be know as Mother Mandy by my fellow sisters! *Luaghs* Then we'll see who's going down under for reading a book!

... I'm sorry, I am just such a chatter box, and I hardly ever think about what I type sometimes. *Smiles like a dork*

Anyway, I plan on going pretty much anywhere I am needed. Mainly Islamic and Muslin countries, because I was recently touched by my young Muslin friends when they got yelled at for taking my Christian pamplets and Bible and said they had to give them back. Those kids looked like they really wanted to read it all, too. The father said he would rip out the pages if they kept it to them with anger, but when I asked him personally why, he was like "Yeah, we're Muslin." like he had no clue what had happened with a dorky smile on his face. So, wanna actually stand up to me, freedom restrictor? Oh, sorry, bottled up anger... Point is, I plan on going to Muslin and Islamic countries.

I'll post some pictures of my missionary bag once I get my post count up.
*Smilies replaced by text because of some other post count rule*
