To avoid misunderstandings I decided introduce myself too.
I’m 31, living in Germany, Heidelberg.

My religion is very different from Christianity. But two month ago my little brother who was an atheist before decided to join a Christian church. He seems to be happy with his new religion so I won’t hold him back. But still I know nothing about it. And that’s what brings me here. I promised him to read about it.

Of course I’m trying not to offend anyone here or be blasphemous. Still it might happen that there are misunderstandings of some kind. Maybe I will write something you don’t want to read. If so, feel free to tell me. A little “shut up” won’t hurt my feelings. As long as you don’t start a witch-hunt we are good.

So have a good day/evening/night everyone. (depending on your time zone)

Best wishes from grey and rainy Germany.

Hello,

I used to live in Heidelberg. I had many good times.

Learning about Christianity is a good idea. It can only help you. Of course you have the Holy Bible at your disposal. Thankfully, we also have the internet and sites that you can use to ask questions. One of the sites in particular is very good for questions and answers, it's called: www.gotquestions.org

Talking with members here could be a good way of both getting to know us and also finding out about God and what Christians believe.

Feel free to start a thread in the Ask a Chaplain Forum and you will be answered by an ordained minister. I and my fellow pastors have many years of varied ministry and experience under our belts. We'd be glad to talk with you and will do our best to answer any questions you may have.

Just click on the "Follow this link..." Sentence under my signature to access the Ask a Chaplain Forum and start your own thread. God bless you and I am praying for you.

Faithfully,

Faithfully,

Thank you very much. I'll try to at least understand what this is all about. It seems to be very important to my brother.
Have you been at the US army station in Heidelberg? They closed it down in 2015 and now it is almost completly empty. Parts of it are used for asylum seekers but I'd rather have the army back

This is a terrible place to learn about Christianity. Nothing but bickering.

Hi and Welcome!

As you probably know, Christianity comes in many "flavors." The forums here have a variety of folders for various denominations and faith groups. If you have a denomination specific question, you can ask in one of those folders.

There are also a couple of General Theology type folders for more general questions.

I can handle bickering. So far nobody was really unfriendly. I would never go to a church so the internet is a good place for baby steps.

I got to see Heidelberg 40 years ago. A very nice place. Walked the 'Philosophers Walk'.

Glad you liked it. Luckily Heidelberg was not destroyed by WW2. All the arm companies have been in nearby Mannheim. So we still have all the old buildings and churches and also my beloved university. A lot of american university students live in Heidelberg since you can study for free.

Welcome and I know this is all new to you as you stated but let me share something that might help you. You stated that you would never go to a church.
I am so saddened by this response .
First of all, church is not a brick and mortar building, but is a collective gathering of the saints. {ie Body of Christ} It can be anywhere that two or more gather.
I crave that special fellowship of being with others of christian faith to share in praise and worship together to our risen Saviour.
I believe that having others to lean on when times are tough is paramount to christian growth, Because
When we are weak, we go to church for support, When we are strong, we go to help those going through their trials in life, To be their strength.
To have loving caring christians to hold you and help you up when you stumble and as you travel the highway of life and lead you along through the Word of God is an awesome thing.

The internet is a great place to come to and help others in their walk or pray with them as needed. It however is not a good place to learn the truths of the Word simply because their are some very lost and confused people who have taken some scripture out of context and built a religion out of them.

I pray that you will reconsider on going to church, and try to find a good Spirit led one close to your home, It may take you awhile to find one that is right for you? but when you do find it, It will be so wonderful.
I minister to a small congregation here and while we lose out in numbers, we make up for it with love. I love having that close personal relationship with people, so that as we pray together I can put my arms around them, look them in the eyes and let them know they are loved and accepted here.
I wish everyone could feel the kind of love that we have and it all stems from Jesus having first loved us :] I am praying for your walk and praying that the trail you are on leads to Jesus :]

Thanks for welcoming me.
So this is what you do in church? Supporting and hugging each other? I had a different picture in mind. Sounds more like a community thing. You seem to be very passionate about your church. But still I'm not planning to change my religion at the moment. But maybe start liking chistianity one day. You never know...

I wish it were a community thing and more would show this kind of love. LOL We love God very much and we do a lot of praising Him for His wonderful blessings. You see it's not about us. as much as it is about Him. God deserves so much more than we can ever give, But we can show love and appreciation together :]

I disagree! LOL

My religion is very different from Christianity.

Welcome - it is wild west here, with many denominations and interpretations. Christianity is a personal journey I've found. You might ask a question here and get 5 different answers, but one thing it will encourage you to do is to seek God

Your god or my god? :grinning:
No seriously I guess everone has to find his own way trough this. Believe is always more emotional than rational. Christians are constantly talking about love. So that obviously the most important emotion for you. It is less important to me but I've never read the word "love" more often than here.
