Hi everybody!
As the subject line says, I'm an atheist. I have been for several years, after a few years as a bit of a waffling agnostic and an adolescence as a sort-of wishy washy Catholic. My change over to full blown atheism came from reading the God Delusion, and realizing that I already was an atheist, even if I didn't acknowledge it.
The question, then, is why am I here? This is a Christian forum, after all, and I have virtually no doubts about my current metaphysical position. Well, it goes like this. I post often on the Richard Dawkins.net forums. I have a good time there, and get up to interesting discussions, but something recently began to trouble me: a fair number of believers visit our forums, and they are often roughly dealt with. It occurred to me that I often took part in it. It occurred to me next that I have never been in the reciprocal situation, of posting a minority opinion in a forum with an overwhelming majority in opposition.
I'm here to see things from the other side. I want to develop a better understanding of how believers see the world, and their place within it. I want a better grasp of the different kinds of believers there are in today's world. Most of all, I want to shake off any misconceptions I might be harboring without noticing. I also hope to answer any questions about atheists or atheism that anyone might have.
Having said that, it's wonderful to meet you all!
EDIT: Poking around has shown my that there are a lot of atheists and agnostics here. Excellent!
