  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I've noticed that there are a few scientists frequenting this board and I'm curious what your current work/research is.

I'll start... I'm an organic chemist and my current research is centered on developing catalysts suitable for making drug intermediates from derivatives of certain natural products (sorry can't really give any more details). Within the overall project there is an emphasis on green chemistry so a lot of my work involves trying to get the reaction conditions as mild as possible (low pressure/temperature preferably in water) and to move away from a petroleum based feedstock (especially with the current economic climate).

My training was in high energy physics, and I worked in that field for ten years. These days I'm a statistical geneticist at a biomedical research institute, focusing on the detection of episodes of natural selection at the moment -- mostly in humans, but also in malaria.

My degrees were in Geology and Micropalaeontology, but I have always worked in exploration geophysics.

For the last 13 years I have worked as a quality control geophysicist on a number of exploration vessels, currently in the Norwegian Sea on the MV Ocean Explorer.

My early background was in hard rock geochemistry and analytical chemistry, these days its still analytical chemistry, but I am at present writing a paper on metal concentrations in shellfish and trying to put together a research project on arsenic speciation in soils with some local geotechnical companies.

A YEC geologist with no boss on earth. Study earth processes that may contradict to current geology models. Teach students to question idea of evolution.

Do your students laugh in your face when a geologist tries to teach them biology? I know I would. So anyway, more on this research. Perhaps a pointer to a paper? Or if you don't want to disclose that, perhaps a brief precis of your recent findings?

Wow, there are quite a bit of chemists here! I'll be finishing my bachelor's in biology in the fall--got 8 credits left to finish. I plan on going to do a master's instead of going straight to a Ph. D. in case I may have issues with the lab am in, and more importantly, for some extra experience that I may need before getting out in the real world. So if everything works out, I'll probably be a population geneticist.

Essentially, I have no business participating in this thread, but I wanted to feel important. ;)

No. I do not teach them biology or paleontology. The idea/model of evolution is not limited to that.

You're right, the evolution of organisms is related to factors like geology. I haven't heard of any leading research in geology that has shown any problems for evolution, though. You are a YEC, however, but when was the last time you've published any research in any respected journals that support the YEC hypothesis? Have you published any research at all? What are your credentials as a geologist?

I would be worried about you teaching them geology due to your reticence in discussing what qualifications you have to do that and the glaring errors you have made in basic geological concepts.

Neither do you teach geology, if indeed you are a teacher. Assuming for the moment that you do teach; its creationism that you specialise in, i.e. magical mysticism.

Give us a list of your teaching material

How about posting something you teach, let’s say chalk formation.

However, I do not think there is a school anywhere that would leave you teach geology. I am also convinced you have no formal qualifications in geology.

What was you dissertation on.

Those are just breeds of the same species. Arsenic microevolution.
