• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

hello,

some of you might already know me if you frequent the marriage forum, where I spend most my time when I visit for whatever reason.

Anyways, I've been diagnosed with bipolar disorder and OCD a little over a year ago.

Sometimes I doubt bipolar diagnosis and other times i have no doubt.... i'm probably hypomanic i don't go out and do anything too irresponsible or outragious... the OCD and the lord keeps me in check anyways :)

My dad is a classic billboard Bipolar case... however you never know which comes first, the drugs or the disorder....

Same with me, what comes first, the bipolar or the OCD?

Well i just had my 4th baby 3 months ago.... I got diagnosed after my 3rd baby was 4 months old.... the post partum stuff really gets to me. And it's not just post partum depression it's some major mood swings.

Anyways, I don't take medication for it yet, I have to be done breastfeeding and on birthcontrol, neither of which i'm at yet.... i've taken lexapro for the anxiety and it really helps, i'm intersted in seeing how the lamictal will effect me, i'm afraid it's going to make me too tired. I'm also going to inquire about xanax and I need to get back on trazadone... none of these things I can take while i'm breastfeeding...

YOu all may see me here from time to time.

Hi,

My antena (sp?) go up at the mere mention of Xanax. I was on it for about 18 mos. For about 1 yr I was taking 14mg a day. Yes that's right 14 mg. Well When for side affects reasons the Dr. told me it was maybe time to reduce the dose, I stopped completely in 7 days. (I needed to get back to work after a finger amputation) It was then I found out that Xanax is highly addictive. I sat in my living room for the next 2 weeks shaking uncontrolably, alternating between projectile sweating and chills, looking like some dirty little junkie you'd see in a movie. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WITH THIS STUFF AND KNOW IT IS EXTREMELY ADDICTIVE! It is very helpful in controlling anxiety, but if there is something else your Dr could give you other than Benzos, try that first.

Best of luck,
Rick

my email reply? Did you email me?

Thanks for the input about xanax, that helps... I had a medical doctor tell me once to stay away from it... and hearing about your experience helped. Lexapro helped me a lot so I may look into that again... though it's more expensive so i've setteld for Celexa instead.... is there much of a difference, do you know?

Hi and Welcome.
Sorry I am slow to reply. I had surgery last week, and have not been on this board as much as I used to. Congratulations on your children's births. I am one of those lucky people who did not know I had anything wrong with me when my kids were little, so I was not on any meds at that time.

I am currently on Lexapro, Buspar and Risperdal. I had been on Xanax, many years ago, but I am a recovering alcoholic, and the Xanax is extremely addictive. My doc and I find that this combination of meds for me works. The Buspar is a mild anti-anxiety med, that is very helpful. The Risperdal is a great mood stablizer.
The combination is what is very helpful.

I recommend you talk to your doctor about your meds, and be sure that you discuss all symptoms and all side effects as well.

Good luck.
Trish
