Hi all! I believe God has a rhyme and a reason for everything, and I believe he has led me here to this forum to share my story. It all started from before I was ever born into the world. A few months prior to my mom's due date, she gets a call from her doctor saying that I had a condition called Hydrocephalus, or "water on the brain", and they claimed the best plan of action for this diagnosis was to have an abortion. Well, my parents, who weren't committed Christians at the time, still found the urge to cry out to God in this troubling situation. By faith, my parents then calmly asked for a 2nd opinion. The first doctor said that would be fine, but the decision would have to be made quickly. And here's the part where I go back and say everything happens for a reason... God places people in our lives at the opportune times, because a short time after the troubling news of the first doctor, my parents were led to the internationally-known neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson. He reassured my family that everything would turn out ok and that his team of doctors would be willing to assist with the pregnancy. So, I was born in October of 1991, and through prayer from our family and our Christian family, God intervened in my family's life and they gave their lives to God at that time. After my birth, I had numerous corrective surgeries to remove the extra fluid from around my head, which involved surgeons installing a shunt in the back of my head to relieve the pressure on my head. That only led to me having seizures and convulsions. So the surgeons went back to work, moving my shunt from the back of my head to the front, where it is still placed currently this very day. I've had about 3-4 different surgeries up until the age of 3. I was on meds at the time that helped with the seizures, up until about the age of 5 years old, until one day I visited my neurologist who said I no longer needed to be on the medicine. And ever since then, ever since weaning me off the medication, to this very day, I have never had another seizure! I give all the glory, honor, and praise to God my Father!
God has gifted me greatly with the talent of music, specifically singing. During one of the times in the hospital when I was young, while I was resting in the bed, one of the nurses came into the sound of me humming, which my parents believe was the first signs of my gift from God. I've been singing in the church and in my community since the age of 3, and I'm told every time I sing, I lead people to tears with emotion because of the grace of God that shines through every time I perform. I'm 26 now, going on 27 this year, and my journey in this life is far from over! God has a great plan for me, and is going to use me in mighty ways to give glory and honor to His Kingdom! Amen, God is Great; I don't know how my family went on so long without Him, but the truth is, we're grounded in His Spirit now, and nothing can take us back! Thank you Lord!
