I'm new here. I was invited by Crazy Liz and don't really know much about Anabaptist doctrine. Can some of you explain to me the basics a bit? Thank you.

Brian

PS: If any of you are wondering about the origins of my SN, it's a reference to a butterfly from the desert Southwest.

Hiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Brian!!!!!!!!!!! Welcome.

Perhaps as a start, consider viewing the thread "The Law." While I suspect it may have been started by a, and mostly if not altogether intended to be, Baptist (the two [Ana. and Bap.] are lumped together on this channel so it gets confusing at times)--and I only just a day or so ago thought of this (truly), starting with Post #35 I interjected some Anabaptist stuff, some of which (at the great risk of sounding boastful) I don't know if you could find anywhere else--all glory to God of course. (My, what a long sentence that was, amen?)

Then, too, you can of course always ask a specific question by posting a new thread.

The name anabaptist was originally a derogatory name meaning "re-baptizer" used by Catholics and Reformers because of a 16th century group's stance against infant baptism and their practice of a believers baptism for adults who were baptised as infants. Baptist and many non-denominational churches have also adopted this position through the initial influence of the early Anabaptists.

However, there are a whole series of characteristics that can generally be considered anabaptist.

Modern day anabaptists include Mennonites, Hutterites, Amish and Brethren.

Some general tendencies relative to other Christian groups tend to be ...

1) pacifistic or non-resistance
2) more communally focused with extreme groups being very isolated
3) avoidance of modernizations/technology

There are others and these are generalizations that do not apply to all Anabaptist churches. There are many Mennonite churches that are relatively indistinguishable from the average evangelical non-denominational church.

Hi, i'm the one who started 'the Law' thread, you can't view everything i say to be 'Baptist' all the time, do not trust me at all, look up things in Scripture and start a new thread to ask questions to find out if it is Baptist. I get kinda wild sometimes with ideas while reading the bible cause it's a BIG BOOK if ya know what i mean. But i'm really a Baptist at heart. :holy: Most of what you guys were talking about over in that thread went over my head, i have to go back and read it, however i did learn that no part of the Bible is to be ignored, or cast away as old.

Anyways..........Welcome Brian!
