• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I quite familiar with the Gospel of John- and I'm aware that it is the preferred (or most misused) Gospel of Calvinism.

Romans 8:
8:26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how we should pray, 29 but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings. 8:27 And he 30 who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit 31 intercedes on behalf of the saints according to God’s will. 8:28 And we know that all things work together 32 for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose, 8:29 because those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that his Son 33 would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.34 8:30 And those he predestined, he also called; and those he called, he also justified; and those he justified, he also glorified.

and..

Romans 9:

What shall we say then? Is there injustice with God? Absolutely not! 9:15 For he says to Moses: “I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion29 9:16 So then, 30 it does not depend on human desire or exertion, 31 but on God who shows mercy. 9:17 For the scripture says to Pharaoh: 32 “For this very purpose I have raised you up, that I may demonstrate my power in you, and that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth33 9:18 So then, 34 God 35 has mercy on whom he chooses to have mercy, and he hardens whom he chooses to harden. 36
9:19 You will say to me then, “Why does he still find fault? For who has ever resisted his will?” 9:20 But who indeed are you – a mere human being 37 – to talk back to God? 38 Does what is molded say to the molder, “Why have you made me like this?”

I posted this elsewhere: the saints have had visions- and they seem to be metaphorical. I don't think we can really grasp what hell is like.

I would think hell's principle pains are the complete absence of God, unceasing permanent punishment and the permanent absence of the body from the soul. Not little red devils chasing you around with a pitchfork.

Man was made in the image of God and so we are always striving to be like Him and look towards Him. Separation from God will cause a kind of pain we can't know.

Paul described purification after death being like a 'refiners fire'. For those that refuse to be purified, they will always be in the refiners fire- where the soul of the wicked, the totally depraved receives forces against it that are completely opposed to its will.

Finally, our soul was created for the body. Much like man was made for woman. Think of the pain that separate from the person you marry brings- and yet our souls are far more intimate to our own bodies. We will experience a separation that will cause us great pain. Unlike in love, our souls will never get over the separation.
Nowhere in scripture do I read that little red devils will be chasing those in hell. What I do read is that Satan, the fallen angels, the Beast and the False Prophet will be suffering in hell alongside those who did not accept Jesus' sacrifice.

This is why this forum was not designed to discuss each church's doctrine. Christian Theology is the forum for that. If you really can't help debating, why don't you head over there to sharpen your sword?

There are alot of conceptions of hell foating around. The bible, however, says very little about it, and what it does say is often confused and muddled up by people mixing it with their outside preconceptions, which as often as not, are based on a mixture of mythology and pop-culture visions of hell.

Thus I find it interesting to compare things like this to an analysis of the scriptures on hell, in the historical context (what is known anyway) of hebrew culture.

Hi! What do you make of the film, dude? Do you think it's based on misconception and fallacy rather than Biblical truth?

You know, posting scripture without commentary is pretty useless. In fact, it's insulting. It suggests I don't know what the bible says.

What do you want me to say, "Gee, I never read that before?" Clearly, you have your own opinion and interpretations- so spit it out.

I wasn't debate, but you were clearly debating me.

Matthew 13:42
and will throw them into the furnace of fire; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

Are you saying people in hell are resurrected because the bible says "gnashing of teeth"? Did you think that phrase might be indicative of the torment, not the presence of a physical body?

I'm just wanting to make sure I got this right, you believe that people in hell have physical bodies? Where did they get them from exactly?

Scripture by itself doesn't seem to support your view of universal salvation. By the way, I don't wish to debate with you since even if you claim to follow CC beliefs it surely doesn't seem like it considering you flamed us in the other thread.

Yes, I believe in the resurrection of the dead. Not "all the dead". Why would God resurrect the damned?

We know that at death our soul departs from our bodies. Wasn't what was significant about the resurrection was that our bodies comes from Christ, as we are part of His Body? That resurrection is a transformation. It is not the mere gain of a new body.

1- I am a member of the forum
2- I didn't say anything about universal salvation. I believe people go to hell

1) I'm not sure what you meant by "CC" Catholic Church or conservative Christian?

In what was are my opinions not in line with either of them?
1) Who else have you been flaming? It's Conservative Christian, I'm not a catholic clearly I'm reformed.

I don't understand your second statement.

I haven't had a chance to watch it yet, which is why I didn't say anything more specific to this particular instance. I am looking forward to getting to watch it and you can be sure comment will be forth coming :p
