" What seems important to me is that the Lord, through his commandments, lays down a path to heaven "

That's good to hear :)

I personally like to get deep with my studies because I know the Bible contains the accumulated knowledge of 4,000 years, in addition to being God's message to all mankind

In the course of my Bible studies I've learned about pre-cuneiform, cuneiform ( Sumerian, Akkadian, Assyrian, Babylonian ) 3 Egyptian scripts, 10+ Aramaic scripts, Hebrew, Greek, Ugaritic, Hittite, Eblaite and more

I've learned textual traditions of exegesis of priests spanning thousands of years, mathematical astronomy, math and math history dating back to Sumeria, metrology and more

...all from Bible study

Makes me laugh when I see people say " The Bible and science don't go together ", they obviously don't know much about history in Mesopotamia

I think it's a shame people have forsaken hard study in exchange for lies and sloppy exegesis, but the scriptures do indeed tell us that in the last days people will seek out teachers to tickle their ears with lies

I like to remind the reader of verses like Romans 15:4

" For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope "

Cheers
