What purpose do these sky debris serve in movies other than getting exploded for being clumsily slow and unable avoid the inevitable destruction by either a car flung from a monster, a missile catching it off guard or a wind knocking it into a wall where it spins out of control until the nameless pilot dies along with whatever the blade shreds.

Why is it these are constantly being shred in movies? Would they get broken so easily in real life in case a forest god elemental appears or aliens take it's light signal as a insult?
