  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

My sister got me into the metal scene with an Intro to Opeth; Black Rose Immortal top volume at 1am in the morning. I have quite forgiven her since than though. She says i'm slipping though cause i've gone a tad industrail by listening to KMFDM just recently.

Was going to go to the Metal Hammer awards in London on Monday; but would you believe it I can't afford the train tickets. That's life.

Well this seems like a dead thread but I didn't wanna start a new one.

But I LOVE heavy metal/hard rock. I never was big into music in highschool and stuff just cause there wasn't much I liked at all... that was until I discovered the awesomeness that is metal \m/

I'm still very much a newbie on the metal scene though. Not familiar with a whole lot of bands but anyway.

Right now I'm really into the old school classic metal stuff from the 80's. Queensryche, Iron Maiden, Dokken, Helloween, ManOwar etc have been getting a lot of play time lately. I also just started listening to Alice Cooper, W.A.S.P. and Pantera (their 80s stuff, don't care for much of the 90's stuff for which they're famous for). WASP is great but I wish they weren't so vulgar so I'm kind of looking around for more similar stuff so if you have any suggestions. Another band I really like at the moment is Lordi. They're a newer band but they sound kind of like a cheesy 80s hardrock/heavy metal band but real fun to listen to.

When I first got into metal I was big on the modern Power and Progressive stuff. Blind Guardian, Symphony X, Kamelot, Edguy, old Nightwish, Sonata Arctica, Stratovarious, Avantasia etc etc...

As far as heavy metal from the Christian scene... there isn't much that's really good I've found yet but Theocracy is awesome. Rob Rock is also pretty great too. Also enjoy Dark Water, Harmony, and Mehida (new band of the former keyboard player from Sonata Arctica)

Edit: Was reading some of the other posts... never heard of Stryper but wow! Gotta check them out more but I like what I heard. And Christian too... To Hell with the Devil sounds great! More in the vein of what I'm currently listening to at the moment... excellent.

I am all about the metal and have been since about age 13. Have thousands of metal albums, seen hundreds of bands live. Been in a few bands as a drummer (never got past the point of recording a demo though), still rock out on my roland kit at home several times a week. Would love to be better as a guitarrist but I basically stink. My "favorite bands" change every few years. Queensryche, Iron Maiden and Metallica were the 80s to me. Then Slayer and Dream Theater and they opened my eyes to so much more. Iced Earth, In Flames, Nightwish, Saviour Machine, the list goes on and on. Death/Thrash/Black/Prog/Power - love it all. Right now my 2 favorite bands are Avenged Sevenfold and Into Eternity. Into Eternity is basically the total package of everything I love most in heavy music. You owe it to yourself to check them out asap.

I wish Christian metal consisted more than just Screamo (or whatever you wanna call it) and black/death metal bands. Every time someone makes a Christian metal list, I go to check them out and they're always basically metalcore or something.

Where's the Christian Power and melodic metal?!? I'm surprised there isn't more Christian Power metal bands as it seems Power metal would work great with Christian lyrics. Blind Guardian does it all the time (faith based lyrics) and they aren't even a Christian band. Kamelot's Epica/Black Halo concept albums could have been tweaked slightly and held a more Christian ending which would have been epic (well it's still epic but yeah).

The power metal that does exist in Christian circles for the most part sucks from what I've found or just doesn't measure up at all to secular counterparts. Theocracy is the only one I'd put in with my favorites and they aren't really power metal... more progressive than anything.

I don't know if they're on the suck list or not, but have you heard Balance of Power, Grimmark, Rob Rock, Mehida, HB, The Rain, Random-Eyes or Narnia? Saint's latest album is also some pretty good none-metal-core Heavy Metal.

Well I have heard of most of those. I actually like Rob Rock but he wouldn't make my top 10 list. I actually had to grow to like him cause I really didn't care at first.

Mehida I have their album I bought for one of their songs... The rest of the album was a major disappointment. Although the song I liked wasn't really metal IMO so I guess I shouldn't have been surprised by the rest. The rest of the stuff is blah. Never liked HB, Narnia or Random Eyes. Blance and Grimmark I've never heard of and I'd have to listen to them more to get a better idea about them. Still, they don't sound really like power metal at all.

The only one out of all those that is close to what I really like is the Saint samples. That was pretty good. I'll have to check them out more.
