  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

What foods bring on heartburn? I have had it so so so bad the last week or two. I know chocolate and spicy food can cause it, which I'm not very good at avoiding! :) This morning I felt it after I ate fruit, yogurt and granola...it seems everything I eat brings on heartburn. Are there any foods that are considered hearburn free? (If there is such a thing!)

Tums are wonderful! :o

I find that if I stay away from food and water the hour leading up to bedtime, I do soo much better. I also sleep with a small pillow on top of my normal pillow. That little bit of elevation helps a ton. Stay upright after eating and try to eat small meals (I know sometimes we pregger women go crazy, right?). A small glass of milk and GAVISCON (way better than tums in my opinion) works for me nearly every time. And sitting straight up and holding the weight of my breasts up off of my chest. I hope some of this helps! *hugs

At first it's stuff like spicy food, but towards the end it doesn't matter, the baby gets so big that he/she is pressing up anyway and everything causes it. Things that work for me- sitting up straight, don't eat just before bed, and drinking milk to ease the heatburn (can't stand eating chalk!)

Gaviscon is great. I take half the recommended dose and it gets rid of the reflux within a couple of min.
You also do need to make sure that you are proped up at night.

Although the baby does cause it once you get closer to the end, it's best to avoid spicy food and fatty foods.
Also try to eat little and often rather than just having 3 meals a day.
And if you have something like gaviscon do not eat or drink anything - other than water - for a few hours afterwards otherwise what you have eaten just strips the layer that the gaviscon put down your osephgus.
Fruits shouldn't cause it but i do know that a friend of mine said that she'd get it with yogherts so i'd guess it was that that caused it.

If you have a natural grocery store see if you can hunt down papya enzyme tablets. They are taken before eating and help so much in decreasing heartburn!!

Also- do not drink anything with your meals. Raw almonds can help a bit, too.

For me- the wicked heartburn bouts I always just took baking soda. For the past three pregnancies I only needed to take it a few times throughout the last month.

Thanks for the suggestions! I will try to hunt down some gaivson and papaya tablets. It doesn't seem to bother me just at night, although I definately have felt it then, but all during the day, too. Sometimes I wonder if it has anything to do with where the baby is sitting, along with the food I eat because some days it is really bad and other days, not so much, and I kind of stick to the same food routine.

Believe it or not, my midwife told me ice water can cause it, too. That's where most of mine stems from.
Weird! I never dreamed ice water could cause heartburn, but I guess it makes sense.
