  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hear The Truth!

When tragedies strike, such as 911 (The towers), It is amazing how people all of the sudden start turning to God. But while things are smooth and peacful, there is no need for God in their lives!

IT' A FACT that after 911, the church buildings through-out USA were filled and attendance grew drastically! Suddenly, science, evolution, etc., and anything else became uninmportant. But unity and prayer and brotherly love abounded everywhere!

The truth really comes out during disasters, tragedies, and the bad times! People have no need for God until their world comes down around them and their life is in danger! Even self proclaimed athiests run to God and fall to their knees, in the time of need, in search of help from an unseen God!

I guarentee that if another major tragedy hits America, which is inevitable, that the arguments on Science, Creation, and Evolution would stop and carry no more significace in any of our lives! But God, prayer, unity, and brotherly love would be the new focus once again!

I am agnostic, and while I did find that 9/11 made me see things differently, I certainly did not run to a church to find answers. It was religion (and politics) that brought 9/11 on in the first place. Granted, it wasn't your religion, but still....

How long did it take for that feeling of "Brotherly Love" to subside? Not long.

A lot of people see God as a cosmic life preserver, it's good to know one's there when you need it, but you don't focus your life on it.

But I have noticed that a lot of people marginally involved with church are making real commitments to church, and more important, a lot of people who were marginally interested in Christ have become fully committed to Him.

It's not the size of the flock that matters, it's the quality of the devotion.

That might be true for you, but it is not true for everyone.

I run a free bookstore, and the demand for Bibles and books about God went WAAAY up after last September, and is still on the rise. I can't keep Bibles in stock! And devotionals, well, as soon as I get them in, they are gone. By far, Christian books are sought more than any other kind in my store.

So? All this doesn't change the fact that evolution happened. Any more than all this would change the fact that a dropped rock falls.

You may not find the answers in a church, but many ran to the churches because they believe going to the churches would help them find God or give them a sense of security!

You are correct, It was RELIGION that brought 911 on not a relationship with God! That is the difference!

I despise RELIGION but hunger after a deeper RELATIONSHIP with God!

What do agnostics believe?

I would venture a guess that most of the people who flocked to the churches thought that 9/11 was the beginning of the end-times prophesy, and most of them were probably already religious, at least to some degree. I would like to see the figures or even a story that claimed that atheists were turning to god after 9/11.

The ones who carried out what happened on 9/11 had a personal relationship with Allah. The only difference is that to you, your religion is the correct one. It is the same with them.

Are you a professed Christian? if so, then your comment is a bit contradictory.

What do agnostics believe?

In regards to what?

Sorry, but if or when we get hit again science, and evolution will not go away, or will people stop using science, or will people stop believing in evolution. I know that god, and prayer wouldn't be my new focus.

Yes. I go to food pantries and give books to the people who come in for groceries. They are prequalified by the adminstrators of the food pantry, so I know that all the books are getting into the hands of people who meet my guidelines for need, and because I go to the pantries, I don't have the overhead of operating a store. So every penny goes into the books, with no worry about profit or overhead.

I display the books like a bookstore and the people pick out whatever they want from my inventory. On a typical day, I give away 100 books.

It's just like a bookstore, I can even do special orders, but I only supply books to people who can't afford to buy, and every book is free.

It's called, "Bread for the Brain," and our slogan is, "Books are bread for the brain." I've been doing it since 1999.

We have tests, trials, adversity, even for some tragedy in this life. For honest seekers of God it drives them all that much closer to God. For others, it drives them away from God.

The exact same thing, that will soften one persons heart and cause them to draw near, will harden another persons heart to cause them to drift further away from God.

Like my pastor says, everything he is persecuted it is like the hammer on a nail. It just drives him in deeper with God and the things of God.

Science took center stage in the war in Afghanistan, both in the instruments used to bring down the Taliban and the instruments used to provide us with around the clock coverage of every event surronding 9/11.

In fact, you are using a product of centuries of scientific research to share this message with us right now.  Science is such an integral part of our lives right now that many people easily take it for granted.

I personally always find humor in one that uses a computer to talk down science.  Pray as hard as you like but your words will never appear to us here without the use of science.

why did people go to church? probably as a last resort. what are you going to do with your loved ones? run in and try digging through a few million tonnes of steel and concrete with your bare hands? call them on your cell phone? shout really loud? shout really loud at the firefighters and excavation team?

for them, the only thing they could do was hope that there was a god, who, although didn't manage to save the lives of the people in the towers, might be able to let them survive and be dug out.

yes... down with science. let's all hold our hands and pray while the nuke drops on us... faith will protect us.

What do agnostics believe?

We believe that it was not RELIGION that brought on 911, but a small group of fanatics who were insane enough to believe that God actually speaks to them personally and tells them what to do every moment of their lives.

What does the Holy Spirit tell you to believe?
