So what's a health nut? If you exercise, eat ALOT, take vitamins, or something similar, I'd like to meet you. :)
I altered your quote a bit so I can be a health-nut too.

welcome to the CF.

Throw me a question. I need something specific before I can offer advice.

Here's an example of some advice I gave a client a couple of weeks ago.

This lady had a hernia and was having acid reflux problems. Of course, her doctor had her on medicine for it (which is all they know). I can't legally tell someone to go off of medication, so I don't even go there.

First of all, since a hiatal hernia is a mechanical problem, I suggested that she find a chiropractor that can do a hiatal hernia maneuver to put her stomach back into place. If this is done then the problem is usually solved. Until she could find someone who's trained to do that, I suggested that she drink a few ounces of aloe vera everyday.

That was about a month ago now and she tells me that she hasn't had to take her medicine yet.

This was something very simple to do that is helping without interfering with her body's functioning like a drug does. God made our stomachs to produce acid to digest our food. Taking a drug to stop this process will only lead to trouble down the road.

I'm not saying "everybody go off of your medicine." That would be foolish and dangerous in some cases. What I'm saying is you should improve your body's functioning through natural means so you will no longer need medication. Then the doctor can safely take you off of them.

The problem is that most doctors are only trained in handing out medications(their schooling is largely funded by drug companies, hmmm) to cover symptoms. They should be trying to find the underlying cause and correct the problem so people wouldn't have to be on meds their whole lives.

Sorry, I'm getting carried away.

Anyway, that's why I'm a "anti-medical health nut" 95% of the time.

Maybe you should read this article... I haven't dragged it from archives to prove a point, it was published in today's broadsheet.

There are horrendous stories in the press every week about people who die unnecessarily and tragically because they put their faith in fairy tales instead of evidence-based medicine.

It breaks my heart that some people are so gullible, but even more so that people will take money from the sick, in exchange for false promises :(

ej,

Would you like me to give you the statistics on how many people die a year from drugs that they're supposed to be taking? Would you like me to add in the drugs they are given by mistake? How about the number that die because of unnecessary surgeries? How about hospital infections?

They're not permitted to put that in the news too often.

It breaks my heart as well to see so many people blindly follow their doctors just because they're supposed to be the authority. It's blind faith. Most of their so-called "science" is ungodly. There are lots of educated scientist that will tell you that they can prove evolution. They're wrong. Likewise there's lots of researchers that tell us that modern medicine is "proven" & "scientific."

Let's take the recent topic of Hormone Replacement Therapy. When they first started giving that to women, they claimed that it was a proven scientific therapy. The alternative health people were against it from the start. Now, thank God, it's finally come out that it is damaging women, not helping them. It's giving them cancer!

Don't place your trust in the media. I have had plenty of experiance with both sides. I can tell you that I've seen far more people damaged by modern medicine than helped. Do some honset research. Don't listen to propaganda.

You talk about unproven remedies, but can you name for me a medical "remedy." Name me a drug that cures a disease (besides antibiotics, I will give them that one). There's no such thing. Medical doctors are not taught remedies. All that they know to do is cut, burn or poison.

Here's an example comparing alternative/natural medicine to medical:

Let's say you have a garbage can full of stinking, rotting trash. Pretty soon, it starts to draw flies and rats. How can we get rid of these pests? We could spray poison on the flies and use a shotgun to kill the rats. This will get rid of them for awhile but pretty soon the garbage draws more flies and rats. The smart thing to do would be to empty out the garbage and clean the can. This would not only get rid of the problem but would keep more from showing up if we keep the can clean.

The medical way of thought focuses on the symptom, the natural on the problem.

What would you do if you were walking down the street and saw smoke coming from the top of a building? Would you help the family of the house by waving away the smoke or would you look for a way to put out the fire?
Medical doctors wave away smoke.

I'm not saying that there aren't dishonest practitioner's in the alternative field. There most certainly are. What I'm saying is, when you look at the whole picture, natural medicine has a far better success rate because they focus on the problem not the symptom. They also harm far less people because they're not using poison.

I would suggest that you start by reading "Confessions Of A Medical Heretic" by Dr. Robert Mendelsohn, M.D.

Wow, Where did you learn about doctors? I wish I knew where that drug company money was when I was in school. I had to pay for my education myself, and I am now saddled with $150,000.00 worth of debt that would take 30yrs to pay off:cry: oh if I could just be a pawn of the pharmaceutical industry. , I wouldn't have to care about people and their pain, I could just push drugs. You mean that when I studied anatomy and physiology as well as pathology to know the cause of disease, I was wasting my time:eek: I should have just memorized the indications as well as dosage and administration:sigh: . why did I waste my time? oh why?!?!

The preceding paragraph should be read in extremely dramatic shakespearean prose in order to illustrate a point.

Scott, you need to relax, doctors are not your enemy. We do not behave as you have painted us out to be. We care about people, and the cause of disease. New and novel therapies should be investigated to show efficacy, not just accepted because they are antimedical, and somehow presented to be better. You seem to be asking people to blindly follow you as you claim that they now follow their doctor. I will give you space to retract your statements..................................................................................

Hi, Sling! Yes, I'm a health nut. Glad you asked. God, Family, Health are my top 3 values (in that order)... what guides my life. Have a SUPER day! :D

P.S. ...s'pose all the doc's in here are health nuts? My doc is my friend, but I have lost faith in him as a doc, along with the other 6 who... well, we all have our stories, I guess. Maybe appropriate referrals need to be made more readily instead of shrugging shoulders or prescribing right away?
