• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Hi Wonderwaleyes,

I have looked through my Bible and can not find the book Sirach. Is it in the Old or New Testiment?

Wendy
Dear WantTobe

Then the best place to look it up is on your computer.

You may well be reading a latter version of the King James Version of the Bible.

The BOOK of SIRACH use to be in the KJV but someone (?????? ) took it out at one time and it has been missing every sense.

SIRACH is the name most commonly used today, but it hasn't been that many years that it was always referred to as ECCLESIASTICUS. I believe the reason for the change is so many confused it with the BOOK ECCLESIASTES:

" Sirach gives advice concerning duties toward God and duties toward parents. It has lessons about humility, sincerity, justice, moderation, the training of children, attainment of wisdom, giving of alms, choice of friends, and use of wealth. It warns against sins of the flesh, gossip, lies, and people with shifty eyes. "

Sirach, from The holy Bible, King James version (Apocrypha)

Can be found at:

http://etext.lib.virginia.edu/toc/modeng/public/KjvSira.html

Wendy I think you will really enjoy reading it as it is packed full of TRUTH, WISDOM, UNDERSTANDING, AND LOVE.

First of all, I want to say that I feel that what you said was very unkind...to say that it took me three years to heal, that it was a process, was the "folks bible." Where in God's Word does it say that we are always healed instanteously?

In Mark 16, it says that one of the signs that would follow those who believe is that would be healed. It does not say that this would take place in the next 5 minutes. It could take a process of healing, that takes 3 years or more.

Gradually, I needed to renew my mind to God's Word (See Romans 12:1-2). Learning God's Word is like learning a new language. It takes time to learn new things, and unlearn old things.

That's the process I was referring to. After a lifetime of bad habits, I certainly could not change all of them overnight. No one can. It requires a process of time in order to heal.

Ann
Dear Ann Doupont

Your Quote of my post didn't come out for some reason. Is this how it came up on yours???

Just so that you get a correct copy of my post I will post it here again:

Folks Bible Vs God's Word

Dear Washclan

We are given a choice.

1. We can do thing's by GOD'S WORD.

OR

2. Use the folks bible.

Now GOD'S WORD says:

Quote:
Sirach Chapter 38
Quote:

1 Hold the physician in honor, for he is essential to you, and God it was who established his profession.
2 From God the doctor has his wisdom, and the king provides for his sustenance.
3 His knowledge makes the doctor distinguished, and gives him access to those in authority.
4** God makes the earth yield healing herbs which the prudent man should not neglect;
5 Was not the water sweetened by a twig that men might learn his power?
6** He endows men with the knowledge to glory in his mighty works,
7 Through which the doctor eases pain and the druggist prepares his medicines;
8 Thus God's creative work continues without cease in its efficacy on the surface of the earth. 9 My son, when you are ill, delay not, but pray to God, who will heal you: 10 Flee wickedness; let your hands be just, cleanse your heart of every sin;
11 Offer your sweet-smelling oblation and petition, a rich offering according to your means.
12 ***Then give the doctor his place lest he leave; for you need him too.
13 There are times that give him an advantage, 14** and he too beseeches God That his diagnosis may be correct and his treatment bring about a cure.
15*** He who is a sinner toward his Maker will be defiant toward the doctor.
Now the folk's bible offers

1.
Quote:
God can heal a person with Bipolar, if they are willing to go through the process.

2.
Quote:
For me, it took about 3 years to get freed from the medication that doctors said I'd be on for the rest of my life.

3.
Quote:
renewed my mind to His way of seeing things and prayed.
Quote:

4.
Quote:
God can heal Bipolar. He did it for me. I've been off all psychotropic medications for over 23 years now.

5.
Quote:
A lot of it has to do with knowing God's voice and following what He says...yes, reading His Word and praying.

6.
Quote:
with the Bible. It took time to learn some new things as I studied it, and to also unlearn some things...to get to really know God through His Word. That was part of the process. It's like learning a new language when we study the Bible.
Quote:

Now I hope NO one here disagrees that GOD CAN HEAL you from ANY DESEASE.

BUT

Why would GOD'S WORD say this??? if all we had to do is use the folks bible???

Wouldn't this be like healing yourself by your OWN works???

We know GOD doesn't speak with a forked tongue.

BUT

With the folks bible there could be some real breakthroughs.

1. We could close down the bipolar site here and just have a SICK site. As I'm sure that GOD would not JUST heal bipolars.

2. We would be Abel to tell the real GOD folks from all the rest because their still sick. These are the only ones that would REALLY need a doctor.

3. If we are the REAL GOD folks then we would no longer have to think about buying medical insurance.

NOW THE BIG PROBLEM I SEE HERE IS, WHERE MIGHT A PERSON BE ABEL TO GET A COPY OF THE folks bible and would I even qualify to use it if I could find it???

Now does this make any sense to you???

One GIANT problem bipolars have is quitting meds after they feel good. This has caused untold CARNAGE to themselves and others all around them.

We are constantly WARNED about this because it puts us into a position of being a TICKING TIME BOMB.

Maybe her TRIGGER has just not been pulled yet. Are you really willing to put yourselves and others to risk based upon the folks bible.

I become real sad when I see a post like this on the bipolar site. Because we can NEVER really know if what they are saying is true and we just failed the GOD test. Many folks start doubting their own faith thinking their doing something wrong. So they try stopping their own meds to test their faith,

ALL I CAN SAY IS TAKE THIS TO GOD IN PRAYER AND REMEMBER:

X Even though you can't see him, GOD is there!!! O
( click on the x and drag to the O ) ( then see who is with you ) steven
"

Now I don't quite undestand what you are talking about on the " 3 year issue " I don't believe I referenced this. Please explain.

Now I ask a question about knowing when you are healed in another post:
" Dear 419gam

At what moment in time will we know we have been healed from bipolar???

NOW???

OR JUST BEFORE WE CLOSE OUR EYES FOR GOOD??? "

Might you give us your insight as to this question???

There is not ONE person here that doesn't want to be healed and be med free. I sure hope they don't get into severe problems as a result of your OP.

MAY WE ALWAYS REMEMBER:

X Even though you can't see him, GOD is there!!! O
( click on the x and drag to the O ) ( then see who is with you ) steven

I for one, am glad that Ann feels confortable enough with us that she is willing to tell us how she feels about her situation, perhaps it was Gods will for you Ann to share this with us, for you to be reminded that this, like cancer can go dorment, and totally not be able to be diagnosed, and then all @ once, have a trigger come up.

I am glad you are healed, Amen for that, but I pray you will keep in mind, that if a trigger comes, and you fall, you will be able to accept the meds again, if needed.

I was told by my friends when I was first diagnosed, that I couldn't be bi-polor, cause I never showed the signs, well, I had just not hit my trigger, and for me, that was to be "hit" literally by a truck, while I was on foot, and the driver did this intending to strike me dead, & I knew him as a "Christian".

I do hope that one day, I might be healed of this, I give it all to god, and it is all on his time, I will never stop myself from taking my meds, I will let the docs tell me to do so, if they ever decide this, and I hope all the others reading this post feel the same way because as you read before by wonderwaleye, God gave the doctors their knowledge & tools for a reason.

God bless you, and thank you for sharing in your story with us.
Your right. I never showed the signs my whole life until i turned 30. My best friend had been attempting suicide and suicidal from her bi-polar for monthes maybe even a few years and i was constantly so co-dependant on her and trying to help her i didnt see how it was affecting me until one time in May when she called me to come over and watch her until her husband came home from his business trip. well on the way over without my knowledge she took pills and when i got there she drank some alchol. She almost died that day and it sent me over the edge. several monthes later i was diagnosed with bi-polar. so that was my trigger. watching her almost die.

Guys come on. Do you really believe God would want us to fight over this? Let us rejoice for Ann that she was able to be cured from a very debilitating disease. We have already said enough of the truth that it is not because she is a better christian than those of us who might never be cured. So lets stop all the bickering. Tis message was most likely intended to give other's hope that it might happen for them.

Wonder- The bible does say that the renewing of the mind(reading the bible) helps clear our mind from Satan. Satan gives us these thoughts that cause us to be bi-polar. I know it's a chemical imbalance of the brain but Satan is the one feeding us the negative thoughts but if we read Gods truth then we can battle those thoughts. We might not be completly cured but we can have the weapons to fight Satan and his demons off. It is not wrong of Ann to tell people to get into God's word. She is being very supportive and standing behind what God would want for us.

Lets stop all the bickering for now. Okay? We have let others know they do not have to be cured of Bi-polar disease to be saved. That it is not of our works that we are saved but that Jesus died for our sins.

God Bless,

Melanie

Thanks Melanie and Connie.

May God's blessings be upon you both today. I went to minister God's grace and love to a man in jail last night. God's Word flowed through me as not in a long time.

Yes, it's His Word that will not return to Him void but will accomplish that which He pleases (Isaiah 55:11). It's His Word that can save and can heal.

You're right in that you do not have to be healed in order to be saved. But, through my many studies in God's Word, I found that there is healing available. As we study for ourselves (2 Timothy 2:15) and meditate on it day and night (Joshua 1:8), we will have good success.

It was what I did. I spent much time studying God's Word and praying. I prayed for understanding of His Word. I prayed for knowledge of His will. I prayed for the power to carry it out. I prayed for His grace. I prayed for His help. In Psalm 46:1, He said that He's an ever present help in trouble.

In Psalm 34, it says that this poor man (or woman in this case) cried (out to God is implied) and the Lord heard and delivered him (her) out of all his (her) troubles. God is no respecter of persons. What He did for one person, He will do for another...if that other person does what that person did. Like David did in the psalms, so can we also do...and God will also do for us what He did for him. We can cry out to God for help and His mercy and He will give it.

Former President Reagan said in his state of the union address in 1983...that all of the answers are in that book if we'll only read it. I heard what he said to do, and I did it, and I found it to be true.

I continue daily to read God's Word. I need all the help I can get, and it's right there in black and white.

With love,

Ann

Morning Ann,

I was just wondering what your personal opionion on Paul with the thorn the Lord left in his side?

Wendy
Hello Wendy,

It's interesting that you should mention that. When I had bipolar, I went to a counselor and she asked me whether I thought that this was my thorn in the flesh. Instantly, I replied, "No! God's more merciful than that!"

The Bible tells us that Paul was given a thorn in the flesh because of the abundance of revelations he had. It further said that it was a messenger of satan sent to buffet him. Paul prayed 3 times for it to be removed, to which the Lord then replied that His grace was sufficient for him.

Paul had so much revelation that he wrote much of the New Testament...or rather, was inspired by God to write it. I don't know that anyone else ever gets that much revelation. So, a "thorn in the flesh" was given to him to keep him humble.

I've been given quite a bit of revelation as I spend a lot of quality time with the Lord. I, too, have been tempted to get proud because of it. I have had many people come into my life to try and dissuade me from believing in lots of things. There was a lot of persecution because of my stand for righteousness and refusal to bow to what people demand (although I have at times messed up).

When I have prayed for God to remove from me the "thorns in the flesh," I have heard Him say to me that He would do that, and He did it. The people who were in my life were also "messengers of satan" to try to buffet me. It was painful in my body. It was not a sickness, per se, but I did feel it.

This is what I believe was also Paul's thorn in the flesh. So also have I heard this taught. Thanks for asking. Bless you, sister.

With love,

Ann

Well, I may not have gotten my point accross, but I basically wanted to say the same thing, It can happen, and for ann, I am glad it did. I was fearfull of others thinking to stop with the meds with our docs approval, and I have never given gam419 a hard time about anything, and I'm sorry if reminding you that prayer for anything is ok was offensive to you. I also wanted to make sure Ann was not turned off by anyones remarks, and wanted to put something positive in here for her. Thats dircet & to the point I think, so

Godd bless, William

Thank you for sharing that, William. Yes, at first, I was very "turned off" by some of the remarks I saw here. Yet, I had to realize that the battles we face in this life are not with flesh and blood (Ephesians 6), but are spiritual in nature. We wrestle not with people, but with powers, principalities, rulers of darkness in this world, and spiritual wickedness in high places.

On the cross, Jesus said, "Father, forgive them for they know not what they do." That needs to be our hearts' cry for others who offend us.

Also, we need to be ever thankful to God. There's something special about giving God thanks that brings us into His presence. I think of it like this: I had a friend who I did a lot for. She never bothered to say a simple, "thank you." Eventually I got tired of doing so much for her.

We'd go places. I drove. I paid the way. I did all the talking (she was the quiet type). When I dropped her off, she'd just get out of the car and not thank me. I finally told her about this, about how it bothered me. I knew that she was "slow" and was not as socially adept as I was. She then started thanking me for things, sometimes. That helped.

God asks that we give Him thanks. It's such a small thing to do, yet it's what He said to do in the Bible. It's in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 and in Ephesians 5:20...that we're to give God thanks in, and for, everything.

I'm still working on this in my life...on remembering to thank God...but when I do give Him thanks, from my heart, there's such peace in doing this...as it is the will of God that I do so.

With love in Him,

Ann

Wonderlayer you are correct in your message except to say that Ann may not be healed. You cannot say that. Just like Cancer God CAN heal bi-polar disease. If it is his will he will cure your disease but like you said he does not only cure those who are Gods children or are doing what he wants. Like you said that would mean all the people in the world who are sick are not 'Going through the process' My family raised me in Christian Science and this theme sounds so much like them. They say you have to be on a higher spiritual plane to be healed and sometimes that means a practioner (who is studied in healing) has to help you. Sounds like they are playing God and when it works and the person is healed I've heard so many times 'I healed so and so' Anyways, sorry I just don't understand why people have to feel they need to do something for God to love them, accept them and maybe even heal their illness. Like wonderlayer I worry about those who will read this and think they should go off their meds.

God does not guaranty that everybody will remain healthy. Eventually we all get sick and even die when our time comes. Bipolar disorder and all other illnesses are part of human life in this world, it comes with our human imperfections that all of mankind have. God is hear for all of us sick and healthy. Just because somebody does not get cured in this day and age does not mean that God is against them. We are all different and will have different trials in our lives.

God does have the capability to heal us if he wants too, I agree with that much, but then again there are somethings we will never stay healed from in this life.

Hi Wendy, I have never heard of the book of Sirach either, It's not in my Holy bible. I did some checking on the internet. I found one article that stated that the catholic church accepts it as inspired but the protestant and some other churches do not accept it. You may wish to do some research of your own on it, now back on subject.

Not to start a debate, but the Book of Sirach was in the Bible before King James was even thought of. If you are ever able to get your hands on a copy of the Holy Boble with the apocrypha, it will be in there. It wasn't taken out until sometime around 1517, otherwise known as the Protestant Reformation. The King James Bible is one of the worst tranlations out there, IMO. It was translated from translations of translations. Many of the original meanings of what was said have been turned around. My advice. If you want to know what the Bible really says, get a copy of the Literal Translation Bible. Its on the Net.

All that being said, back to the original topic. Ann, I am really happy that you have found healing. I am also med free but a long way from healing. I have many ups and downs. Though, my issues is actually SAD rather than bipolar. I'm still hoping and praying that this winter will not be as terrible as last winter was.

I don't think God wants to heal me of bipolar disorder. I think this is part of his plan for me.

No matter what happens dont feel down and remember that even if you dont get healed right now that doesn't mean it wont happen in the future.

:) Eventually this system of things will be destroyed and a new world order will come about and all of those believing in christ will be cured of there illnesses and sickness and death will be no more. There is a new system that will replace this one, when it will happen nobody knows, Keep your chin up.

Hello all,

Just to encourage you that God can heal a person with Bipolar, if they are willing to go through the process. For me, it took about 3 years to get freed from the medication that doctors said I'd be on for the rest of my life. That was 3 years after I gave my life to Jesus and renewed my mind to His way of seeing things and prayed.

So, please be encouarged. God can heal Bipolar. He did it for me. I've been off all psychotropic medications for over 23 years now.

Blessings to all.

With love,

Ann Doupont

Hello all,

Several thoughts came to mind this morning to share with you here. One is a verse and a prayer. May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing that you may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Ghost. (See Romans 15:13.)

God truly can heal anything. I've been in a very long process of being healed from PTSD. From what I experienced during my many years of living, there have been many traumas.

When I was healed from bipolar, I got proactive in my own case. I really wanted to be healed. In fact, I was desperate for healing. I was diagnosed with it before I came to Christ. I was hospitalized several times before I found Jesus as my Lord and Savior, and one or twice afterwards.

After asking Jesus into my life, I started seeing a Christian counselor. He told me that I needed to cooperate with and participate with the Holy Spirit. He asked me if I wanted to know God's will for my life. Yes, I did want that. He then told me to do what it said in Romans 12:1-2, and I would then be doing God's will.

With love,

Ann

:) Yes indeed Ann, God truely can heal. All who believe in God and Jesus ransom sacrafice will be healed when God is ready. Weather it be tommorrow or later in the future. With Gods power and Wisdom anything is possible.:amen:

For those of you out there who havent been healed yet, do not lose faith, for it may just not be your choosen time to be healed yet, just because there are still sick people out there yet does not mean God has left them. All of Gods children I belive will be healed at his choosen time.

For a lot of people it may not be until the new world comes in. I do say though too that I agree with Ann that God can heal, of course all of us Christians belive he has that power. At the right time for each individual it will happen, weather it be in this present system of things or in the new system of things that is comming under Christ rulership:amen: when that happens.

The book of Sirach is in the Catholic Bible not the Protestant bible. Protestants do not accept it as Holy and Inspired part of the Old or New Testament.

From what I have read that is correct, Most churches out there dont accept it.
