  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Have you ever thought about this?

I'm sure most people have, but have you really actually ever sat down and wondered what was going on around you that you could not see? I mean I wonder if it's full of things and busy like our life? When we do our daily things are spiritual beings around us? It's just amazing. I don't care how long I have been a christian, God just amazes me all the time.

Hi Karen, you might enjoy reading a group of short stories (actually, originally, radio broadcasts) that have been made into a book called, "The Screwtape Letters". In this book, author C.S. Lewis (Chronicles of Narnia) explores the unseen world you mentioned, but from the "other" side, from the perspective of the demons who live there as well. Very thought provoking and eye-opening for the Christian.

You can read it online here: THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS

Just remember as you read that it was written from a demon's perspective (which, for instance, means that Jesus is always seen, and called, "The Enemy", in these stories).

Yours and His,
David

"Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers,
against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness,
against the spiritual forces of wickedness
in the heavenly places."
Ephesians 6:12

In the preface, he states that if you believe in them, you have an unhealthy interest in them. Guess it depends on how he means "believe." Believe in the sense that you know that they exist then it's an assumption on his part that there would be an interest in them. Don't you think?

Hi tturt, I don't believe that's what Lewis was trying to say, but perhaps I'm misreading his words. Here is an excerpt from his Preface to The Screwtape Letters.
"There are two equal and opposite errors into which our race can fall about the devils. One is to disbelieve in their existence. The other is to believe, and to feel an excessive and unhealthy interest in them. They themselves are equally pleased by both errors.........." C.S. Lewis
Lewis is saying there are two ways we can err when it comes to Satan and his demons. The first (and probably most common today) is to deny their very existence and therefore be completely unconcerned about them. The second is to (rightly) believe they are real, but then be overly concerned about them. They are our enemy to be sure, but they are a defeated enemy ..

He does not say that. He says that it is possible to have a unhealthy interest in them if they consume your mind, the fact that you believe they exist only means you acknowledge the spiritual world as real. This is not unhealthy.
