  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

I was thinking about something, and wondered if anyone else has ever noticed this.

When speaking to atheists/skeptics/libertines, and you ask the question Who determines morality? Or Who determines What is right and wrong? Many will say "Society Does." You can find proof of this in the various discussion in the Apologetics forums on this very board.

BUT...

When it comes to issues that the atheists/skeptics/libertines care about, they retreat from the "Society does" line.

An example of this can be seen in the current debate on the issue of marriage.

The atheists/skeptics/libertines want marriage redefined, when individual states are trying to vote on the issue (Michigan for example) the atheists/skeptics/libertines say that Society does NOT have the right to determine what is and what isn't marriage. And don't want the issue to come up for a vote. Neither do they want to people of the nation to have the opportunity to vote on an amendment related to this issue. (because they know what the outcome of the vote is going to be.) So instead, they want the courts to redefine marriage for all of society.

Does anyone else see the utter lack of logic in this?

As Christians we hold to a moral code that is defined by Almighty God. He alone is Sovereign, and He alone determines what is right and what is wrong. His law is binding over all the earth.

Now, What exactly is the atheist/skeptic/libertine moral code? It is obviously not "Society determines morality." As they claim, because when Society does things that they are opposed to, they are some of the first to scream and complain about it.

So then, What exactly are they appealing to? Themselves? Or don't they even know?
