Hi
The other day I ask a friend what he believes in and he sent me an email with stuff from this guy. I have tried to read and learn more about him so I can understand where my firend is coming from, but a lot of the time it doens't make sense.

I don't want to insult my friend by telling him what he believes in makes no logical sense, so I was wondering if anyone here has heard of this guy and can help with counter arguments so i can show what he believes in has flaws.

Here are a couple of the statements this Krishnamurti guy has made which I don't agree with.

About God:
'When you say you love God what does it mean? It means that you love a projection of your own imagination, a projection of yourself clothed in certain forms of respectability according to what you think is noble and holy; When you worship God you are worshipping yourself - and that is not love.'

About sex:
Religion says, `Give up sex for the love of God'.

About Christianity:
'Sorrow and love cannot go together, but in the Christian world they have idealized suffering, put it on a cross and worshipped it, implying that you can never escape from suffering except through that one particular door, and this is the whole structure of an exploiting religious society. '

There are others but the thread would be too long. So what do you suggest my best approach is.

Well, he is a philosopher. So your best approach would be to simply discuss the views more, and learn more about him. What exactly do you think is illogical?

For many, christianity is illogical.

I will use my favorite quote from Lady Shea, "I find ludicrous the belief that the war god of iron age goat herders trifurcated into flesh to sacrifice himself to himself to save us all from his own wrath all over a fruit tree dispute."

seems quite illogical to me.

Maybe you should not go into a discussion with an intent on bashing the beliefs. you need to learn more about them before you deserve to do that.

Krishnamurti is the discovery of the Blavatsky's Theosophism.
René Guénon french esoterist who tatolly against Theosophy.
For him , it's Bad Buddhism ,Bad hindouism and certainly Bad Christianism.
The Theosophy is the current basis of the New-Agism.

Guénon doubt about the Dzyan's stance of Blavatsky, probably a bad comprehension of the term Dhyany , who means "meditation" ( Zen in Japan).

Krishnamurti take some distances with Theosophy. But ...

I've read Krishnamurti. He's really an atheist, a nihilist, believes in nothing. The fact that he was born & lived in India has confused some into thinking that he was some kind of Eastern religious mystic & teacher. To those who have studied Hinduism he has a religious sounding name as well. :D

Krishnamurti is basically an atheist who condemns everybody and everything. The Theosophical Society named him as its spiritual advisor and he responded by condemning the Theosophical Society and all other religious organizations. Everybody who ever tried to get close to J. Krishnamurti got burned.

Act accordingly.

I offer a quote from J. Krishnamurti's "Book of Life"

"To be a theist or an atheist, to me, are both absurd. If you knew what truth is, what God is, you would neither be a theist nor an atheist, because in that awareness belief is unnecessary. It is the man who is not aware, who only hopes and supposes, that looks to belief or to disbelief, to support him, and to lead him to act in a particular way.

Now, if you approach it quite differently, you will find out for yourselves, as individuals, something real which is beyond all the limitations of beliefs, beyond the illusion of words. But that—the discovery of truth, or God—demands great intelligence, which is not assertion of belief or disbelief, but the recognition of the hindrances created by lack of intelligence. So to discover God or truth—and I say such a thing does exist, I have realized it—to recognize that, to realize that, mind must be free of all the hindrances which have been created throughout the ages, based on self-protection and security. You cannot be free of security by merely saying that you are free. To penetrate the walls of these hindrances, you need to have a great deal of intelligence, not mere intellect. Intelligence, to me, is mind and heart in full harmony; and then you will find out for yourself, without asking anyone, what that reality is."

Dale- I think this quote speaks against your claim that Krishnamurti was a nihilist and and atheist.

Krishnamurti's work is very difficult to read, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who isn't well-versed, and I put heavy emphasis on that, in philosophy in general, especially Eastern philosophy, because his work does contain considerable similarities to it. Out of all the people I've met that have read Krishnamurti, I'd say about 80% came out confused or with an incorrect understanding of his work.

Very true Havoc, Valencia, it would be best to discuss your friends beliefs with an open mind to truely understand where he is coming from. When I was younger, I lost many a friend trying to push my "Christian" beliefs on them. 10 years later, I am finally trying to make amends with those friends. It is a long road so please be careful. Good luck!
