Acts 4:12 (King James Version)

12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.
------------------------------------------------------
We know that God puts priority on people adhering to His New Testament morality, over religious ceremony. Yes there are many, commands to adhere to religious things as Communion. However, it is still possible for a person to be saved apart from religious ceremony, no?

Romans 2:14-16 (The Message)

14-16When outsiders who have never heard of God's law follow it more or less by instinct, they confirm its truth by their obedience. They show that God's law is not something alien, imposed on us from without, but woven into the very fabric of our creation. There is something deep within them that echoes God's yes and no, right and wrong. Their response to God's yes and no will become public knowledge on the day God makes his final decision about every man and woman. The Message from God that I proclaim through Jesus Christ takes into account all these differences.

I don't believe that "name" here should be taken as a literal moniker, but rather it is a reference to the power and authority of the Person to whom it references.

This is a mistake that some sects (United Pentecostals and their ilk) make when they claim that you must be baptized in the "Name of Jesus" only, else it's not valid (that's a whole 'nother discussion, anyway).

Example: You're watching an old western movie on TV, and the sherriff commands, "Stop in the name of the law!" Just what is the "name" of the law? To think that that is what "name" means in this case doesn't even make any sense. Who is gonna ask, "well, what exactly IS the name of the law?"

Don't reduce the Power and Authority of God to a mere magic incantation.

Mesa has it right,

This is an example of the many in the West misunderstanding Mystical Eastern Theology (IOW, Christianity). In the name of does not mean simply to incant the name (as some, most notoriously the Sacred Namers would have us believe) but rather to come or pray with the will and authority of the name we are speaking of. In the case of the Holy Mysteries of God, this is fulfilled.

That's the only way it ever made any sense to me.
More about knowin' Him than pronunciation of language.
