• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

When you sense you heart filling with fear or your mind crowding with thoughts of irreversible loss, take a minute to ask yourself, "What right now seem to be fueling this fear?" As best you can, pinpoint the cause of you stress and source of the fear. And then seek to deal with those issues. Are you overcaring? Overcaring is a condition in which a person over identifies with or becomes over attached to what he/she cares about. Overcare is rooted in some type of loss--perhaps loss of control, of one's identity, of not achieving what a person truly feels he need in or to live. In many ways we have become a society infected with many people who overcare. Faith is the ultimate cure for fear. Faith is believing that God is in charge of all things and that we can rely on Him to do what is eternally best for each of us. I encourage you strongly: Choose to believe that God is at work in your life and in the lives of those around you. Choose to believe that God is in control of all situations and all circumstances. Faith is always a choice, one I encourage you to make on a daily basis!

Jesus taught, "Let not your hear be troubled; you believe in God believe also in Me" (John 14:1). Repeatedly in the scriptures, Jesus or an angel of the Lord spoke to people with these words: "Fear not!" When it come to fear, may those words from God ring in our hearts always, in all situations and circumstances, in all relationships, in all dreams and hopes and desires.

I was experiencing panic attacks nearly every Sunday when faced with having to go to church and confront all those 'possible' social situations and everything else that goes along with being at church. I'm not sure the nature of your panic attacks but what helped for me in the end was actually going to church early before people had arrived and just sitting there letting the crowd build around me. I actually went through the motions of one at church too (that was EXTREMELY hard to do) because I was just so sick of running everytime.

Not sure if this has helped but hopefully something of it has.

I actually remember seeing this thread too and thought I had posted. LOL am feeling a bit confused by that now  All I can think is that my post is either lost in cyber space or something else distracted me.

Hi UnitynLove
I read Dr Claire Weeks book ‘self help for your nerves’ and after reading this and understanding how and why panic attacks happen I never had one again, and what’s more I know I never will, This is one of the greatest books ever written on anxiety and it is the foundation to my helping many people to recover. I know that some people keep it close to them especially at night so they can comfort themselves. I know that it’s important to see your GP to make sure that panic attacks aren’t something else like an overactive thyroid gland etc, when this is established then this book is well worth a try.
