• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I am really struggling with my attitudes towards God. Recently I remembered an assault that happened when i was 16 on a train which i had completely forgotten about and have never mentioned until now. I realised that God failed to protect me, despite his promises in the Bible to protect His people. He failed to protect me from abuse from 4 different people in my life... he certainly had many chances. Why would God allow such a thing? I believe it's punishment and in that case I want nothing to do with such a God.
God is a liar- he says he will protect but he does not.
But still.... I want answers. WHY?

Jesus loves you, and in Christian love, I wish for you to find the God of your salvation and will offer up as many of such explanations necessary as possible to you.

  • It is true that God may allow adversities to enter into someone's life to draw them close to Him when they are drifting away.
  • It is also true that sometimes God may allow adversities to draw someone to Him, when though they know Him, they do not know Him personally or Jesus Christ personally, and the suffering has a possibility of, within the realm of that person's free-will decisions, guiding him or her towards this end goal of meeting Jesus Christ.
  • And even sometimes, God can allow adversities to occur to build strength and virtue in someone's life. The reasons for the adversity to be allowed could range, if on this level, from anywhere between a need for the strength to be developed to carry out a greater purpose for which you have been created, or as a development of a specific virtue or even perhaps to overcome something involving one's personality or spirituality blocking him or her to a true relationship with God.
  • Suffering is sometimes a result of human free-will. God, because of His Word and promises, will not interfere with the ways of the world, unless one is regenerated into His New Kingdom of Jesus Christ, which is the Kingdom of Heaven. When one finds Jesus Christ, then (1) the sufferings that may come across can be overcome very easily in Jesus' Name, as Jesus has said Himself we could move mountains with faith the size of a mustard seed. (2) The sufferings that we may come across are there for a different purpose than the purpose of drawing people closer to Himself, unless of course, that is the prescription for the specific issue at hand blocking us from God.
  • Suffering is sometimes the result of Satan and his demons causing people to be disheartened and unfaithful to God Almighty through Jesus Christ. Satan's time is very limited and he knows that soon his mission will be defeated and God, in His mercy, is allowing the world to still have time so He can gather as much of His children back to Him as possible, but this will not continue for much longer. Satan's goal, is because he is the ultimate evil and immorality, is to attempt to draw as many people as possible into him and away from God before his ultimate defeat. The book of Revelation talks a lot about that.
  • Suffering even, is allowed to happen in someone's life when that person needs to build faith and the adversity at hand, once chosen by the person facing it to be thrown down in Jesus' name and overcame, will cause a great so-called "leap of faith" to occur in that person's life to build a stronger faith and relationship with God.
  • God does not hear the prayers of the unsaved. This is kind of a hard one to say to you, as while I feel so much care and concern for you, because you are going through something that is a hard, hard, thing to deal with. But Jesus has spoken that the only way to God is through Him. That includes prayers. If someone is not saved, and if someone has not received the Lord Jesus as his or her personal Saviour, then, God will not answer their prayers because if Jesus is the necessary vicarious atonement for our sins, then likewise, Jesus is the necessary Way, the only Way through which we can walk and bow before God's throne. You have told me that you are a spiritual seeker, and not born-again. God will not answer your prayers until you first accept Jesus Christ as the Lord and Saviour of your life, because that is His Will for ALL to do first irregardless of what they feel is the primary concern of their life at that moment. The only primary concern of one's life is the Kingdom of Heaven, and, as Jesus said, "seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be provided unto you." While that verse refers to food, shelter, clothing, the basic human needs, protection from the evilness of men also is within that list... shelter (safety.) Being a seeker, and not saved, this protection was temporarily withdrawn for maybe one of the purposes I explained above in this message to you, or perhaps even another greater purpose.
There are also many other explanations for suffering, but these are a few of them which I believe best relate to your specific situation.

I think blaming god is a stage we all go through. I sure did! After all It only makes sence to the human mind that someone is to blame. God is everyware so .... there we go!

But you know people have free will. Those people abusing us had choices. The evil in this world is horible. What makes a person choose to hurt another? I don't understand it myself.

Keep seeking, and reaching out. There is a lot of great people here who can help! If you need a friend,I'm here for you too.Message me any time.

Brothersean,
Thank you so much for your answer. I can understand some of what you are saying. But I would like to point out that this happened when I was saved. In fact it happened within a year of my becoming born again. And continued (in the case of my brother) for years later, even though I was faithfully serving Jesus at the time. I believe that it did help to build my faith over that time. But right now, I just can't see it. I would like to believe that God is good, but I cannot see His goodness in my life anymore. I try to pray but all i see is a heartless, uncaring God.

Hi, God does not punish us in any way. In the old testament he did deal with the hebrew nation in different ways, but that is not the way of today, where we are in Christ.

There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

God does not seem to go against people's will. So those who did harm to you were not sent by God, not did God want you to hurt or suffer in anyway.

But because He gave us free will people can and will use that free will to hurt others.

If God were to stop all suffering in the world, he would have to wipe us all out as we are all sinners.

But he does have a plan when there will be an end to all suffering and pain for Christians. There will be no more tears.

So hon, think of the many atrocities that go on in the world; think of Paul in the bible, an apostle and what he went thru for the sake of Christ.

Also, again the atrocities committed against christians occurs a lot, also miracles occur too. When I read of the Christian Chinese who have to hide their faith, and meet in secret, and the horrors they go thru.

God can intervene but he doesn't seem to do it in many instances, however we've no clue as to what is really happening in the spiritual realms. Again, look at the suffering in the world.

When I see a car accident seconds before me, I thank God for the delay I had a minute ago, or it would be me.

He does not interfere with free will it seems in these days, however, we do not know what really goes on.

He does work all things to the good for those who believe.

The thing is, we do not know what he's protected us from now; even though one suffers pain and suffering we do not know what he has prevented from happening to us.

I came to Christ at 33 and know that he protected me though I went thru much before Christ, was in danger and peril much, he protected me none the less.

God is not a liar. Satan is the liar and deciever.

Promises were given to Israel that were not given to us. It was a different dispensation.

There is plenty of promises to help us know and be assured that he cares deeply for us and is with us in our trials.

When Paul suffered some sort of thing on his body, it was from satan, not from God.

When people suffered in the NT it was from other sinners or some other things, but not from God.

the only thing God does in regards with us these days re correction, in these days of grace which we are now in since Christ died and was resurrected is he corrects us..

And if you can imagnie a loving human father, you know how he would lovingly correct his child. Well, God is a zillion time more lovng than any man could ever be and so his correction is much more loving than a human fathers. He does not zap us, nor send us suffering, or illness, etc.

He loves you very much, and never wants you, nor anyone, to be hurt in any way.

Anway, hope that helps some.

oops, just want to remind you God in no way punishes us; all punishment was taken by Christ on the cross.

blessings,
tapero

Why did God allow me to be raped, get cancer, lose a son in an accident? Such questions have no immediate answer. Without minimising your anger and pain those questions often are based in inner pain, not our objective intellect. Consequently no 'reason' will ever suffice the cries of your heart.

Your questions may not be answered in this life, but Jesus can heal your heart, and when that happens those questions lose much of their power over you.

You can believe that Jesus loves you and wants to transform your inner being. Or that they were unexplained events in a godless world for which there is neither real resolution or hope.

Don't allow your pain to keep you from God's restoration. But the pain is real, as many here well know.

Hi SearchingSister,

I understand your anger at God. And God understands, he can handle it.

He isn't punishing you. What your abusers (on the train and your brother) have done to you is awful. God wouldn't want you to have suffered this way. And you were only a child through all of this. Abuse at any age is not right.

God is perfect, but unfortunately, people are not.

I know you will get through this and see that God is here for you. He created you and wants to see you live an abundant life. He wants to take away your pain.

Take care.

Hi again. I just had this thought... I want you to think of what a wonderful earthly father would be like. Maybe you know one. They do everything to protect their children. Then let's say, unfortunately, someone evil comes into their child's life and abuses them or entices them into drugs or whatever. Is this father a bad father now. Where were they? Are they punishing their child because these evil people hurt them?

Now imagine the child sharing with this father what happened. A wonderful earthly father would probably comfort their child and say, "I'm so sad and angry that this happened. I will take care of this... you let me handle it." Then they would seek law enforcement on the abusers (punishment). They wouldn't punish their child. They did nothing wrong.

Now imagine our Father in Heaven. How much more does He want to comfort you?

Bianca, God is not a heartless or uncaring God. Sometimes, humankind, in rebellion against God used the free-will we were given with to hurt the hearts of His children, and while it occurs because of the laws of this lower kingdom of the devil called earth, He can and DOES use hard times in people's lives to bring about a greater good in one's personal life and in the Kingdom of Heaven. Each adversity is a blessing that builds character and strength so that we can be even stronger in faith and experience even more gifts that we can share with the Body of Christ, our brothers and sisters. God may not have caused it, but if you give your hurt truly and fully to Him, He will give answer your questions and will heal you, and will show you many blessings out of this trial.
