• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I remember telling my ex.."As long as I don't smoke continuously for two weeks, I'll never get addicted." So much for that...

If I'm not smoking, then I'm thinking about smoking. First then I think about when I get up in the morning and the last thing I think about when I go to bed at night.
I hate the smell of it, I hate the condemning looks and comments people give "Why are you smoking, you know it's not good for you/etc".... way it makes me feel, the heaviness and irritation in the chest/throat area...the headaches and irritability if I try to quit, the craving when I know damn well it's doing some serious damage to my body, and the irony of taking classes like Human Anatomy & Physiology and going into healthcare field, but smoking outside the medical campus center @ breaks.

God just showed me in a kind of graphical representation how this smoking is a device of the Devil. I think it is all that dark smoke gets inside your body and then the devil can get in there more easily.

God showed me this five days ago and it scared me enough that I havent smoked since and I smoked for 30 years.

I did pray and plead with God to help me before I saw this image.

Maybe pray and ask God to show you so you too will be convinced.

I still want to smoke a little, even tonight IM having a bit of a hard time. But when I think of what I saw that it creates a link from that devil's mind to my mind, it gets me sick and then I dont want to smoke.

Praise the Lord

I feel your pain, my dad is a respiratory therapist, has been since I can remember. He's told me ALLLLL sorts of stories about treating people that smoke. Granted, people smoking gives him job security. Even with all those horror stories I'm still smoking..

I managed to quit for 3 days a little while ago, I remember sleeping and reading my Bible helped a lot. Seemed like if I just kept myself busy there were only a few cravings throughout the day. The best party about it was the increase in stamina, no more getting winded from running up the steps!

..Then I slipped and had a cig, and now I'm back on 'em. They're a nasty invention of the Devil, truth be told.

I managed to quit three months ago, and haven't looked back since.
My advice to you is simple. Your body is supposed to be a temple. Treat it like one. Keep it clean.
The only thing you have to watch for is relapse. Your mind may not be addicted after a while, but your body will likely be addicted for the rest of your life. One cigarette is all it takes to start the addiction all over again. That's why you must be vigilant. It's yet another aspect of avoiding temptation. :)
