...This persons thread is Just another example of churches teaching the gospel of doubt. Time and time again on this site people are struggling to be saved or believe they can not be save. Which is a result of the works based salvation being taught in most denominations which saves no one. So no wonder there are multitudes of people who are like the starter of this thread, believing they are some lost soul headed to hell.
... Which they may be if they are trusting in these work based salvation teachings, instead of believing in Jesus for God's free gift of Eternal Life salvation.
a great many people in a great many denominations have the assurance of salvation. And in those same denominations you can find others who do not have it.
But the answer is in direct relationship with God - it is not a gimmick where one claims God is stuck in a box/contract thinking that even if one lives like the devil after accepting Christ - it won't matter. Matt 7 "
not everyone who SAYS 'Lord Lord' to Me will enter the kingdom of heaven but rather the one who DOES the will of the Father". Matt 18 "
I forgave you ALL of that debt - should you not have forgiven others as I forgave you?"
Rom 8:16 says that our assurance comes from God the Holy Spirit "bearing witness with our spirit that we ARE the children of God" - not a gimmick but rather a relationship, a real interaction.
Rom 8:12 So then, brothers
and sisters, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh— 13 for if you are living in accord with the flesh, you are going to die;
but if by the Spirit you are putting to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For
all who are being led by the Spirit of God, these are sons and daughters of God. 15 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons
and daughters by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” 16
The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God
2 Cor 13:5
Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize
this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you—unless indeed you fail the test?
1 John 2:3 By this we know that we have come to know Him, if we
keep His commandments. 4 The one who
says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him; 5 but whoever follows His word, in him the love of God has truly been perfected. By this we know that we are in Him: 6
the one who says that he remains in Him ought, himself also, walk just as He walked.
1 John 2:1 My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And
if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous
1 John 1:9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that
He will forgive us our sins
and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
