• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

The short answer: No more than any other illness or condition.

Similar things have been said about schizophrenia--that the voices in their heads must be demons speaking to them, or something like that. Nope. Garbage. As one very intelligent schizophrenic pointed out, think of being able to swallow a simple little pill and beat back a demon. *That's* what's really illogical.

I do believe that illness is the result of humanity's fallen condition, and that when Christ makes all things new, no illness will be part of it. As things are now, we are subject to distress and disease, piled on us by the enemy, trying to get us to renounce God as in the book of Job. Only in that sense does any illness or condition, including AS, have anything remotely to do with demons.

very true, ilness cant be demonic. becuz god allowed it to happen but it can be used by the devil. i have seizures and seziures cauze halluncations. btw my seizures are controlled so this isnt seizures. everynight. i hear someone walking by my bed. or phones ringing. one night i had fire come from under my covers. satan is using it to see god as a cruel master. and thinks of us as a guinea pig. just like job. satan brought boils to job. but it was allowed by god. so every christian wit diease should take heart in knowing god is in control

I am a born - again Christian and i had a spirit of fear oppressing me . God graciously delivered me of the demon. I know therefore that Christians can be in bondage to a demon. God is in control always of our enemies. We do belong to God as Christians. God lives within us by The Holy Spirit. I read that demons can not own you, they can not live in your Spirit, but they can oppress your mind and body. When a Christian couple laid hands on me and prayed for me, i felt the demon physically come out of me- the fear and inner torment left me, and i was able to eat and drink properly again. I opened a doorway to demons through certain sin , and when looking at things i should not have, i heard the demon say it was going to get me. I have A.S ,too, and do not think that this is demon oppression. I have read that it is a neurological disorder that some people are born with. I still have A.S, but the demon has left me. I praise The Lord !

Hello my friend, i too am an aspie. Now i can assure you that autism, or any other disease for that matter, is completely unrelated to demons. Autism has, in studies, been linked to genetics. There is as much reason to attribute AS to demons as their is to do the same to the common cold or the flu.

...Sex is completely fine as long as its done in a loving relationship.

Not just any loving relationship, but a married relationship...! [Gen. 2:24]

Having AS and having been involved in deliverance ministry, we know that many conditions that are thought to be psychological or neurological prove to be, at their root, demonic.

The boy in Mark 9:17-29 would probably be diagnosed, by modern professionals, as nonverbal autistic (which is sometimes accompanied by seizures) or epileptic. Jesus didn't give him a pill or extensive behavior modification; He told the spirit to leave. In that case, and cases like it, if we sided with our professionals, we would be guilty of both idolatry (placing men above Jesus/God) and unbelief (not taking Jesus at his Word).

If you need medicine, and it helps, and the side effects are bearable, by all means take it. But none of these medicines are cures; they just help with symptom management. If you have such a condition of which you want to be cured, go to Jesus. It shouldn't really matter whether He performs a healing or a deliverance.

I am a Christian with Asperger's. I think Asperger's is how God made me and I think He gave me Asperger's to be used for His glory. I think Asperger's is basically a component of our personality and nothing to be ashamed of like a demon possession or anything like that. However, I do think Satan has unique ways of tempting Christians with Asperger's because of our particular set of strengths and weaknesses that come with the Syndrome. The unfortunate thing is that often we Christians with Aspergers go through trials with probably no one around who can relate to our struggles because very few if any others in our home church have Aspergers also. This is something we have to be careful of. I think that is one reason this forum can be a good thing is to communicate with other Christians dealing with AS about how we should live with the Aspergers set of strengths and weaknesses.

Yes , God can use both our strengths and our weaknesses for His glory. I do not think that Asperger's has anything to do with devils. I agree that God has made us this way. He has a plan and purpose for each of our lives. God loves us all equally, with a perfect love and compassion. God understands all of our thoughts completely.

so what u are saying is that when a aspbergur christian gets saved, he still has a demon in him. once a person is saved all demons are casted out of us, yes we might be opresssed by demons, but we will never be demon possesed after salvation but filled with the holy spirt.

how can u have a demon and the holy spirit at the same time.

please dont think im dismissing the possabilty that AS could has a demonic route, im just saying u shouldnt worry about being controlled or possesed by a demon if ur a saved christian. becuz once saved u belong to jesus and no power and hell can take that away.
Hi Bro, Yes we can have a demon of some kind when we are a Christian as we are a temple with inner court outer court and the court outside that (of course no demon can go in the inner court where Jesus is in us, but the outer court is accessible just like the dirty animals were when being sold and Jesus delivered the temple by casting them out. We can get viruses etc in the outer court or body, which we all get and have to deal with. Asperger's is a spirit with maybe rejection and fear attached which must be dealt with by spiritual warfare by mature Christians. Go to the website of SheilaRamsey.com who has had lots of service in the Lord dealing with autism, aspergers etc over the last 30yrs or so. I send all my love to you and blessings in Jesus' name. Bless you brother.

I personally don't believe AS is demonic in nature. Nor does it cause me to sin in and of itself. It may cause allot of neurotic behaviors. But neurotic behaviors are not sins. They are different but they are not sin and they are not inferior. They are different.

When I read Mark 9, I actually think the child sounds more epileptic then autistic. It sounds like the child is good most the time, but then occasionally has convulsions, foams from the mouth, and then gets rigid. That to me sounds more like epilepsy then autism. (not that I think epliepsy is demonic, becuase I don't. Its just what it sounds like to me when I read it) In fact the childs symptoms in Mark 9 could be epilepsy, autism, head trauma, stroke, kidney failure, severe liver disease, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, withdrawls from certain chemicals, Alzheimer's disease, Creutzfeld-Jakob disease, Neurofibromatosis, Phenylketonuria, Sturge-Weber syndrome, Tay-Sachs disease, or any other abnormality in the nervous system, etc... or demonic. So many things can share a set of symptoms. Must look past the symptoms to see whats causing it.

Pryvet.

It seems to that i don't love anyone but myself, cause it often seems i don't care about people though i never mean to hurt anyone...

It is comonly believed by NTs that Aspies lack any empathy. But the latest studies coming out of Europe actually indicate the opposite. They are saying that Aspies are so empathetic that they get overwhelmed and shut down, which then gives an appearance of not caring. Lets see if it lets me post a URL to an article:

TheStar.com | Mind & Mood | Asperger's theory does about-face

So,back to your original post. Do you really believe you are unloving? Or are you listening to what others say about you? Block all the other voices out and look real deep into your heart, you may be surprised at the answer.

My apparent lack of empathy/love has hurt the people who love me many times over. But at the end of the day, when the chickens come home to roost, it is an apparent lack of empathy.

Sorry if I'm interrupting (I hope Pryvet will feel free to reply) - but that kinda got me thinking. I suppose I can "care" a great deal about certain people, even strangers, but hardly about parents, and it remains like, I don't really feel connected to most people that I should've grown attached to long time ago or so :-/ (they don't understand why am not experiencing that, anyway)

Joris,
I think I understand what you are saying and am with you. I do feel empathy towards people. But my empathy for strangers is the same as my empathy for people I have known for 40 years. You would think I would be greater connected to, say my family. But I guess I am not really anymore connected or empathic towards them. (and I guess they don't understand that.) But, its not that I don't feel empathy. I guess I don't really have levels of empathy or connectedness. If I saw someone suffering, I would probably feel the same empathy whether I knew them or not. Thinking about it now, it seems my empathy is unrelated to my relationship or connection to that person or even object for that matter.

Now I am just rambling and I'm sure it makes sense to no one- including myself. Now I am going to have to think about this. Guess I know what I am doing for the next couple of days. Good thing it's the weekend.

i have AS and have been wondering the difference between HFA & AS.

Typically, AS has average to high intelligence where HFA has an IQ of 75 or less. There are some other, more specific differences as well. I am not an expert, but I've been to a lot of doctors for my HFA DS (now 21) and myself (w/AS).

I have AS, and im sure it has nothing to do with the evil one. In fact, i think it is a blessing.
For example, people with aspergers often have higher interlect than people without asperger. For example. When i was six years old i beat my grandfather in chess. At that time, he had 80 years experience in chess. I was best in my school at chess when i was 6.
Ofcourse it has its negative things aswell. But im sure the good things is more!
God bless you!
