I used to be a soldier, but eventually decided my reasons for being one werent right etc etc, plus i didnt see a need not to drink, so i stopped being one, when i changed cores to do more youth stuff.
At the moment im actually at an anglican church (just pointing out that sydney anglicans seem pretty different to anglicans in other countries) as its my closest church and im leading youth here instead, as its where i grew up and i totally feel a calling to it. i pretty much call my self salvo, some times mentioning anglican in joking though.

I actually dont drink at the moment, any way, and when im hanging with my freinds that hang out in pubs etc, im still different to some extent.

I use to do the alcohol thing, and only with the aim to get drunk. I can't do social drinking. So it's probably a good thing that I don't actually drink any more. And yeah the boredom of watching other people drink means pretty much there is little chance I will go back to drinking again

Having seen what drinking can do to people, I think I just prefer to stay away from drink. Having said that I have no problems with Christians that drink.

You'll need to be a soldier to apply for officership - as far as I know, anyway.

Don't stress TOO much about the only-marrying-an-officer thing. Lots of people meet at OTS And worse case scenario, become an officer, meet a gal, and SuperSalvo her...

I do think the dual-officership concept a good one (not sure it always works in practice). Considering that fulltime ministry DOES take a toll on a marriage and almost always includes both partners to some extent... might as well make it official and make sure that both people are committed to that life.
