Seeds?...Oh, yes the little things that plants come from. ;) I have never been successful starting things from seed. I generally just buy plants and plunk them in pots (I live in an apartment). So far, I have planted some pansies and primroses. My hosta is coming up and my artemesia is getting a little more bushy every day. We are having extremely warm weather, and my patio faces south, so it is like a little greenhouse in a way. Good luck with your little sprouts!

So far, we've only started the pumpkins that my hubby was too impatient to wait for. I hope he hasn't started them too early...

The seed packages usually state how many weeks before the last frost you should start the seeds; so it depends on where you live.

In my area, if the package says to plant 6 weeks before last frost, that means about 6 weeks before Mother's Day; so I'll plant them on March 27.

I've started some zinnias, bellflowers, balloon flowers and foxgloves indoors under lights.

I've also planted loads of other things with a winter sowing technique that is my first time trying. If anyone is interested you can contact me and I'd be happy t send you the url for more info.

I bought some seeds today - Allysium, Cornflower, Poppy and Nasturtium. I've grown the latter before - very popular with blackfly. :sigh: I have some Marigolds coming next month by mail order, so the snails will be happy too.

It's pretty difficult to go wrong with any kind of squash. One year, at the beginning of winter, I bought an acorn squash and on a lark I tossed the seeds out into the backyard. Next spring, up they came. I never did a thing to make them grow aside from scattering the seeds. I did have bad luck with pumpkins last year, but I think it's because I planted them too late, and in a container. I think they just needed more root room than they could get there.

Someone else mentioned potatoes... I tried that once. They grew well, but I'll never ever grow them again. Waaaaay too much work, and they are so inexpensive to buy anyway.
