  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

I've made a promise to myself to stay as far away from anything Harry Potter as I can. I watched the majority of the first movie and, well, it's just not my type of movie.
If I had only watched the film(s), I'd never have understood what the hype was all about. Like you, I would have avoided the whole franchise like the plague after being subjected to Chris Columbus's version of "Philosopher's Stone".
Unlike the novels, the films (particularly the first two) do not offer anything that might be even remotely interesting to people past the age of ten (or fans of the novel who want to see it come to life, even if it cannot live up to the book version). They are just loud, CGI-laden, colourful popcorn feasts.

Gotta say the half blood prince was a bit of a let down...

I think it was slow paced and a bit boring... The plot was simpy put poorly executed. The previous films have been better, hope the next one is good!

It should be-they are doing it like several of the others should have been done, most notably Goblet of Fire where almost 1/2 the book was left out, in 2 parts. I have a feeling that if someone has only seen the movies and not read the books may have a hard time understanding some things; or how badly they have to change things simply because they have left so much out of the movies!

Prime example: The basement escape--In the book, it is Dobby to the rescue, but they have completely left in out of the picture since the 2nd movie. Will be interesting to see how they handle this!

I confess! I belong to the category of people who have not read the books (it's not that I have anything against them, probably would very much enjoy them, but I just don't have the time). The good thing about this is that since I do not have a book to compare to; I don't get really annoyed about all the parts they have left out. Granted, I don't get the full depth of the story (let's face it the book is ALWAYS better and in most cases it is much MUCH better) but generally the films still manage to deliver an ok plot. The latest installment did not.

I'm glad to hear that they have decided to do the last film properly (though it will be irritating having to wait a year in between; hope it'll be worth it!). I have high hopes for it!

I do like HP movies, I tried to read the first book, but have no time to read.
I do admit I did like the first chapter, even if it did take me two weeks to read that far. Thats why I stopped reading.

The other movies did seem to flow and have reasons for the scenes. But this last one did have a lot of scenes that seemed the only reason they did it, was because it was in the script. Other than linking plot gaps, the actions don't make sense.

If killing Harry was the goal, it could have been done back in book 1, and probably every book since. This last movie, they had Harry at their mercy, kill him or bring him to Vald, leaving him knowing all he knew, was not an option.
I have never liked the secrecy Harry always does, not telling everything he knows,
and trying to do it all himself, seems to stretch to thin, ecspecially when he first arrived in the wizard world. The secrecy seems to be a way to allow the "bad guys" to triumph, rather then help the situation.
I know this is a young Adult book, and kids want kids to be the hero, but this seems to be a weak sid eof the movies.
